Remarks

The college is a 100 year old institution that brings an illustrious heritage. With age, the buildings have become old and the image has lacked lustre, but the jobs keep coming in and everyone wants to hire UVCE students. The classes may not be regular all the time and the teachers might not be too keen to completing portions, but the students are self sufficient and know how to train themselves, which is why a UVCE passout is called a finished product.

Entrance Preview

K-CET Its a 100 year old college founded by the legendary Sir M Vishweswaraya, the placements are unparalleled in Karnataka.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

You can find it online, on the college website too if not, you are handed a prospectus and syllabus copy upon admission and you are given one every year after the yearly admission is done. Generally every student has one, if not, the hard copy everyone has the scanned soft copy handed down or shared. The university prints syllabus copies as and when the syllabus changes.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. Internships start the end of the 3rd year and can go on for almost 9 months. It pays anywhere from 6000 to 15000. There are unpaid internships too.

Placement Experience

5

I don't need 250 to explain this. Yahoo, google, MS everyone has come to this college. Where most colleges in Bangalore are happy giving 1 or 2 offers to their students, UVCE students pass-out with 3 or sometimes even 4 job offers. One can have 2 offers in a mass recruiting company, one in a bigger higher paying company and one in a dream company.

College Events

4.5

There are five annual fests that are held in the college Milagaro - inter cultural fest in the even semester. Fiesta - intra college sports and cultural fest Inspiron - intera college tech fest, Impetus - inter college tech fest, Kagada - natianal level paper presentation contest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very good. Perhaps one of the least, if not the least expensive college in the city. It costs around 16 thousand rupees every year. There are other costs like the exam fee, that's around 1000 rupees per semester. Hostel fee is around 5 thousand rupees. There are no charges for library or lab or the cyber cafe within the college.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, there are various scholarships awarded by the university as well as scholarships awarded by the state government. There is also a scholarship awarded by the alumni to meritorious students. One needs to keep tabs on the notice boards and there is more than enough money to be had.

Campus Life

2

Those were the best days of my life. Every incoming batch is welcomed with a college level inaugural. Then the seniors of each batch host a fresher's party for their respective juniors. Gender ration can be called at 3:5, thats there are 3 girls to share within 5 boys. All students are Indians, but there is diversity among the state. with 80% natives from karnataka and 20% from the rest of India. Economically, its a middle class and lower middle class college, with the fringes coming from a wealthy or humble family.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel is like any government college hostel. Not the cleanest, but it has enough for the students to made do. There could be three to five people sharing a room. The rooms don't have attached bathrooms but the hostel has a big quadrangle where people can play sports.

Alumni/Alumna

It has a very strong alumni, of more than one hundred thousand passouts. Some highly decorated public servants and some heading their own organisations. The seniors generally come back to college on special occasions. Most of the senior professors are alumnus of UVCE. Most principals of other colleges in Bangalore are passouts of UVCE.

Exam Structure

There are only two internal exams one lab internal exam one lab final exam one theory final exam Internal marks add up to the finals. Totals for every semester are for 1000 marks till the final year papers are set and valued by Bangalore university.

Admission

You take up the KCET, you get your rank, you select the college, goto the college office in the ground floor, they give you the application fill it out, get a DD for the first year admission amount submit it and your done, generally takes 20-30 mins if you already have the DD and have a filled out form.

Faculty

4

They are different for different departments. Some legacy departments like civil and mechanical have more than 20 PhDs. Some newer departments like computers have less than 5. The best thing about the faculty is, most of them are UVCE alumnas and know exactly how things are for the students.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 7th sem. The highest on campus package this year was around 64 LPA, while as far as I know, the top 20% of the students usually get offers in the 16-24LPA range. The overall placement rate is good, but results depend a lot on your skills and practice

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am a tech-enthusiast and chip designing is something i have been keen to know about and hence i went in for ECE Course. The curriculum is just same as the other engineering colleges. Detailed enough to pass the semester end exams. Teaching methods and the equipments need to be changed. Its high time. While other colleges are using well designed new technologies for lab experiments, ours is still stuck on the old methods which is very frustrating as we dont receive accurate results that affects our performance.
