Remarks

Yes, this one's gotta be important. This also correlates with the heading. I joined this college with a lot of dreams in my eyes. It looked promising. Back then it had good faculties. But, for a college having such a weak and betraying kind of management, it really does not take much time for a college to change from awesome to awful. I had a lot of hopes from the college for its future. However, the management was successful in putting all those hopes into a permanent sweet slumber.

Entrance Preview

I took WBJEE in the year 2007 and i secured a rank of 15246 to get admission in Seacom. Frankly speaking, with the tight counselling situation back in 2007, and with the rank that i secured, i did not have much options, near Kolkata to study Mechanical Engineering and hence i opted for Seacom.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course structure was divided into 8 semesters with end semester exams at the end of each semester and two internal tests (slot tests) in between. The course was what was laid down as a syllabus by WBUT for mechanical engineering. Only general concepts related to engineering were discussed in the class and labs (which were essential for passing exams) and any kind of research related activity was out of the scope for the college. As for example, the faculty will not be able to help you with the final year B.Tech Project.

Internships Opportunities

Internship is a concept applicable to large institutions. Here, only Vacational Training was there. In order to get good VT, you have to search yourself.

Placement Experience

3.5

In 2010-2011, I would say NOT BAD for a college of such stature. I myself got placed in a MNC which was a manufacturer of cutting tools, from ON CAMPUS. However, later due to unwanted increase of seats in Mechanical Engineering in various colleges in West Bengal, job market for Mechanical Engineers became competitive.

College Events

4

During our time there was a Cultural fest called Glockenspiel and a Tech Fest Called Bizzare. Glockenspiel was the event we all looked forward to every year. We all enjoyed the rock bands the students managed to get on campus when the fest was on campus. Later the Fest used to be celebrated at Nazrul Mancha.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure back in 2007-2011 was 17000 for odd sem and 24000 for even sem. Total course fees was 176,500. It was quite affordable back then. It was also a reason why i chose this college for admission. However now the fees have elevated exhorbidantly. However, there are no good job opportunities. Students still sometimes get placed with very low salaries.

Fees and Financial Aid

Loan facility was provided with low interest rates from Punjab National Bank. Some scholarships were there for students belonging to economically weaker section of the society.

Campus Life

4.5

There were football competitions. Yes robotics competitions were there in Bizzare. Gender ratio of the college for male to female was may be around 3:2.The competitions were pretty exciting. There also used to be badminton competitions. There was a good basketball court.

Hostel Facilities

3

I was a Day Scholar. I used to avail of bus Services till the second year. But I have not been a part of the hostel or mess anyways. But, it is an interesting information that hostel facilities are provided only to Marine Engineering Students. No other hostel facilities were available for engineering students on campus.

Alumni/Alumna

Frankly, speaking I myself representing the second batch of Seacom Engineering College (2007-2011), did not get to have students much senior than us. However, the seniors from the previous batch were quite friendly and helpful. I got good support from them even after I joined my first job and found them as my senior colleagues in the company.

Exam Structure

The course structure was divided into 8 semesters with end semester exams at the end of each semester and two internal tests (slot tests) in between. The exams at the end of each semester were conducted by WBUT.It was hectic for some and chilled out for some. It all depended on the type of student.

Faculty

4

In between 2007 to 2011 Seacom Engineering College had promising faculties. Concepts related to engineering were properly discussed. However, as it later came to my knowledge, due to mismanagement from the college and inability of the college to pay standard salaries to the teachers all the good faculty left. Seacom now has to survive on Contractual teachers, some of whom are mere M.Tech Students who are teaching for some extra pocket money.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was relevant for beginners and covered important computer subjects like programming basics, DBMS, networking, and computer fundamentals. It helped in understanding the foundation of IT and software. However, the curriculum needs more practical sessions, coding practice, live projects and industry level skills. Exams were conducted semester wise with internal assessment, and the difficulty level was moderate. Overall the curriculum is good for basics, but it should be updated with more modern topics and practical learning.
