Remarks

The institute is good but it is us who have to get the best out of it. It will work according to the set structure but we being a part of it have to follow it while balancing out our goal.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course B.F.A. and M.F.A are professional courses. The bachelor course is of 4 years and master is of 2. The curriculum enables and prepares you for the art market and if you have the capability then you can hit the right strings and get better exposure. But the course will need your will to pursue it rigorously to achieve your goals. It offers few theoretical subjects along with practical subjects in B.F.A. which are: Art history, Aesthetics, Method And material, (English and Punjabi or Hindi in first year only). In masters it has Appreciation and critical appraisal of Art, Dissertation, Drawing and Creative painting or portraiture painting.

Placement Experience

3

The college does not provide with placements but being in the college for 4 year and more the students are well exposed to opportunities and find a well suited job or pursue freelancing.

College Events

5

There are numerous events that take place in the college. Being an art college every year the Chandigarh art fair is always beautified with the floats made by this college students. So creation of floats is a big event in the college and it usually takes up 2 weeks to complete. Students also take up various stalls in the carnival which also helps in earning some pocket money for themselves. Like any other college annual function, youth festival are also a major events. Apart from these cultural fests being an art college it also arranges for artists visits, art talks, trips to places with art and culture backgrounds. There are so many events that the students learn so much from them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very reasonable. As it is a government institute it is affordable for many. The only problem is its medium that is it deals with Art and art is expensive so the fee of the college is not inexpensive but the cost of the materials is the major expense.

Fees and Financial Aid

I applied for many art competitions and scholarships in Chandigarh but the college only provides for the toppers scholarship. I was not able to bag any success. You have to attain a certain percentage to avail it.

Campus Life

Being an art college it is well off infrastructure vise. it has a very good printmaking studios. Other studios are also good. The whole environment is very calm and is favorable for creating artworks. Annual sports is a very fun filled event that takes place ones a year and it totally supports the same.

Hostel Facilities

I was a day border so i need not to opt for hostel. The college does provide with girls and boys separate hostels. The girls hostel for architecture is shared with the girls from art college. And for boys their is again a sharing of boys hostel in sector 16. chd.

Alumni/Alumna

It depends on the person weather they want to be in contact or not but as for me i am still in contact with most of my batch mates and seniors. they were and still are very helpful and supportive.

Admission

I wanted to pursue art and a friend of my dad told us about govt. college of art Chandigarh. As it was a degree course and filled in all the criteria we were looking for in my own city, these factors helped me in convincing to pursue it. I took up coaching from Mr. Sikandar and gave the entrance exam which includes 2 practical exams i.e. Still Life and Composition. These 2 exams are for 1 hr 30 mins each, the 3rd exam is a general knowledge test of art is for 1 hr. I cleared the entrance and bagged 8th rank from general category. I took up painting out of the 4 options i.e. applied art, painting, Graphic design( print making) and sculptures.

Faculty

3.5

The professors are qualified and are experienced in the art streams. A few of them are working as an artists as well in Chandigarh. The age of the professors varies from 30's to 50's. Being in practice the professors are able to provide with first hand knowledge.

Placement Experience:

Around 80-90% of the students get placed in my course. The average package is 3LPA - 5LPA. This college has a decent placement record. The highest package offered is 7.6LPA. Companies like Google , Deloitte , Amazon , Infosys , Wipro , etc. come to the campus to pick excellent students for their company. The college also has a dedicated placement cell which helps the students to prepare for placements.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For improvement in teaching methods, they can go digital, like using smartboards, or use more practical teaching methods, or maybe just improve the way of teaching simply. Teaching methods here really need upgrades, mostly students here have to rely on youtube when exams come near.

The placements have been lowered by 10-20% recently, but they are getting better. You will get a job if you manage cgpa above 7 and are decent with your skills, but then don't dream for 20lpa + jobs, you need to work upon yourself in silence to get 25-50 lpa packages and they do happen in our colleges, highest package in electrical 2024-25 was 52 lpa and in ece cse they had 61 lpa. Companies start coming in 3rd year for internships, only 10% manage to get intern in 3rd year, companies like microsoft, atlassian, flipkart, mercedes, jp morgan etc. they do come. Placement perecentage is like 75-80% in electrical and it is very low in civil (around 40-50%), in cse it is like 90% or even higher. My plan is to get an intern asap. (Maybe in 2nd year theough offcampus)

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being a Science student , I loved my curriculum as it provides application parts with laboratories . I choose this course as I always wanted to learn more about science and its various fields. For me overall curriculum is good and have moderate level but I would suggest to reduce the syllabus little bit so that most of the students can learn whole syllabus Exams are being conducted regularly as per the University guidelines.
