Varinder Singh's Review On Kalinga Institute Of Industrial Technology - [KIIT], Bhubaneswar

The admission to KIIT University is through KIITEE. I appeared for KIITEE 2007 and upon securing a merit got selected to pursue B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering for the batch of 2007-11.

The course curriculum was very well designed with a perfect mix of academia and industrial exposure. It was mandatory for any graduate to undergo 2 industrial training - one at the end of 2nd year and one at the end of 3rd year. The 2-3 months of industry exposure along with the academia, practical and electives has helped an individual become a good professional.

Its mandatory for each student to undergo internships at the end of 2nd and 3rd year of Engineering. Good number of students get through internships. Some of the companies which visit the campus to offer internships include Tata Steel, Infosys, Cummins, etc. The average stipend offered is Rs. 10,000/- per month.

KIIT is known for its placements. KIIT holds the record for 100% placement of its students for last 7 years. KIIT also created a record of 3600 job offers being rolled out in the single day at the campus. The average package offered is in between 4-5 Lakhs per annum. Some of the companies which visit include TCS, Accenture, Wipro, Infosys, Capgemini, Cognizant, Deloitte, Tata Steel, Tata Power.

The fees structure is on the higher side 2.5-3 lakhs per annum.

There are many scholarships which students can avail such as Posco India Scholarship for toppers of the batch. KIIT also provides 50% fees waiver for all the students who secure 1-50 rank in KIITEE.

The college has a strong alumni base of 50,000+ located all across the world. Every year Regional Alumni Meets are held in the major metro cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and at international locations such as New York and Dhaka. A grand alumni meet is organized every year at the campus on 26th January where the BEST KIIT ALUMNI Award is presented.

The course is based on the concept of Semesters which are held twice a year and each semester has a mid semester which as 20 marks, 70 comes from semester exams, 5 marks is for attendance and 5 marks is for quiz tests or assignments. Each and every lab is of 100 marks, however their credits for calculating the final GPA varies. The course is hectic and students need to give their 100%.

The faculties at KIIT are at per with any other NIT or IIT. More than 30% of the faculty base has Ph.D in their areas of expertise and carries with them a rich experience of academia as well as industry. All the faculty members are on permanent rolls of KIIT and they devote their full attention towards the development of the students either through teaching, research, mentoring or guiding them at regular intervals.
