Remarks

You will hardly hear anything from college management once you get admitted unless you are on the hit list of a few senior professors in general they are cool and do not involve much in the day to day functioning of college.

Entrance Preview

I took CET-Karnataka in 2003 and secured an AIR of 1248. After, I got my results, I was pretty sure of making into some good courses in the top colleges of Karnataka.I atteneded a centralised counselling in Bangalore and managed to secure a seat in into the ISE department of "The National Institute of Engineering" which as per my liking was the course next best to CSE.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Curriculum was pretty detailed and exhaustive for Information science and Engineering Curriculum is pretty much similar to Computer science. You had an exhaustive list of electives to choose from right from Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning to cloud computing and advanced DBMS.

Internships Opportunities

We had a mix of companies for internship opportunities some of them paid really well while some of them just offered you opportunity to work on real time projects. As far as the list of company goes, there were ANZ, Cisco, National Instruments and a host of top tier companies.

Placement Experience

5

Placement and job opportunities are excellent in general, if you are studying CSE or ISE and you have a descent percentage (70%) of marks at your disposal you can expect to get more than one job offer.

College Events

3.5

Here are a few events that we celebrated with fervour while we were in college, TechNIEks - A three day cultural extravaganza held every year, teams from all over country participated in this event, ACEFest - For CSE and ISE guys held every yearApart from this we had n number of departmental fests from each department.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It was pretty cheap in comparison to colleges of similar stature and facilities you had to pay college fees once a year (Around 40K) and there were hardly any other kind of fees that we had to pay.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not avail of any scholarship, but I remember there were a few classmates of mine who availed of some kind of scholarship from Govt. Of India and Govt. of Karnataka. Loans arealso easily available from all the reputed Banks to finance your education.

Campus Life

4.5

Mysore is a relatively cool and calm city so don't expect a lot of happening places around (May be by 2015 it would have improved a lot). As far as your student life is concerned, you can have a fair share of parties and good times with your friends with night rides to chamundi hills on a cloudy day and chill out in a few not so expensive pubs in Mysore.

Hostel Facilities

3

I stayed in Hostel which had limited accommodation and you had to be really quick in case you wanted a seat in the hostel. Hostel accomodation was relatively cheap and costed around 18K a year including mess charges. As far as food in Mess is concerned, it depends on individual's choice. But, in general if you are a north Indian you won't like it a lot.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is pretty exhaustive and supportive you can always find an NIE guy boasting about NIE being alma mater of narayana murthy(Infosys Co-founder) which is indeed true. If you are lucky you can always meet him in one of the alumni meets.

Exam Structure

While I was attending college between (2003-2007) NIE fell under VTU (now its autonomus and I assume it to be relatively chilled now). As far as VTU exam structure goes, only the first month of the semester was relatively chilled and the later part of the semester was all about Unit tests, Lab submissions and exams. I would rate it as relatively hectic until you reach final year.

Faculty

4

In general computer science department suffers from quality faculty. In my case I would rate the faculty quality as a mix of good professors and not so good professors. A few faculty members were quite good at their subjects but their were also a few who had just finished their M. Tech and joined as Lecturers. As for other departments, I would rate faculty highly as most of them were quite renowned guys in their fields.

Placement Experience:

Students in my college have a very good amount of campus placements where students become eligible from the final year 7th semester however the placement cell starts training from the 1st year means 1st semester itself like training for aptitude test, coding and mock interviews. Top it companies like TCS infosys, wipro, Accenture, capgemini, cognizant, IBM, tech mahindra mind tree. The campus receives 300+ offers. The average package 8 - 10 LPA and highest package 54 LPA. Every year 90% students are placed. After my degree i am planning to higher studies in abroad.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is generally detailed and aligned with industry Expectations but there is still scope for modernisation in certain areas.Overall i would like to rate 8/10. The syllabus include both theoretical and multiple lab components which ensures hands on learning. The practical labs like programming work and project with learning help students understand how concepts are applied in real work places. A few theory heavy subjects feel outdated and no longer match the current industry demand this could be revised or replaced.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements from the 6th semester, but the overall placement scenario in DSCE for CSE is below average. Not even 50% of students get placed in good companies. Most students end up getting offers from mass recruiters or in sales and non-tech roles. Only a small percentage of top performers get decent technical packages. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, Accenture, Cognizant, and a few mid-tier companies visit the campus, but the number of high-package, core-tech roles is very limited. The average package is on the lower side compared to other top COMEDK colleges. Because of this, many students plan for higher studies, certification courses, or off-campus drives after completing the degree. The on-campus placement support definitely needs improvement, especially for technical roles.”

Placement Experience:

The students who are studying in 7th semester ( final year) are eligible for campus placements but before that in 5th semester there is pre placement training like aptitude everything. Top companies visit for placement like TCS , infosys, wipro, accenture, capegemini, IBM, techmahindra, Mindtree. Average there are 150-250 offers. Average package is 7-8 lpa. The highest package is 54 lpa at botify company. 85 % of students get placed at cse branch and ai amd ml and civil 30 - 50% . Overall 80% students gets placed. My plan is join a top product based company liek google with a good life.
