Remarks
The only drawback of MZU is its location. It is situated 9kms from the Capital city of Aizawl. Second is the food which is provided in the hostel mess. As mostly this university is dominated by north east students rice is commonly served here.
Course Curriculum Overview
Studying Architecture in MZU is a unique experience. The undulating landscapes of hills surrounding the sprawling campus is a sight to see. The campus is big just like any other central university. The Architecture department is placed on a new building which has many infrastructure facilities like Academic and Seminar complex, OAT (Open Air theatre ), construction yard, computer lab, jury rooms, department library, spacious and airy studios and classrooms, boys and girls common room, canteen etc.The curriculum is followed as per COA (Council of Architecture guidelines)
Placement Experience
Usually in any Architecture college, private or Government Aided placements do not take place though there are few exceptions. Mizoram University is a central Government University with NAAC grading of 'A'. Though the faculties here have contacts with firms in across major metropolitan cities of the country. They are very helpful for guiding and choosing firms for internships.
College Events
Every semester the department conducts site visit for students to gain contruction knowledge by taking them to see some of the iconic buildings of Aizawl and Mizoram. Many workshops are also conducted every semester in which Architects from different states are called. Some state govt funded workshop also takes place. Festivals such as Diwali, Christmas are celebrated with great pomp by the students. University fest known as 'MZU Virthli' happens in the month of April. Many competitions and the most famous DJ night takes place in this one full week of fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As this is a Central Govt university, fees is very low as compared to other Architectural colleges. Per semester fees is around 30,000 including hostel fees for six months and monthly mess fees of 2000. There are many scholarships for North East students.
Fees and Financial Aid
No I haven't opted for any scholarships or loan. But students belonging to SC/ST and North East can avail various scholarships granted by respective states. A online form is to be filled and scholarship amount is credited to student's respective account per year.
Campus Life
Campus of MZU is very vast. Various events of different departments takes place in the auditorium of the University. There is one multipurpose hall where sport activities takes place. Foot ball field is built recently. MZU park, Rendevous park, uncle's cafe and canteens are the places where students usually hangout. There gender is quite good here and students from various corners of country study here.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, there are in all 7 boys hostels in MZU campus. As of now there is no specific hostel dedicated to Architecture department. 2 boys hostels are at a distance of 700 m from department building. For freshers 3 seater room is provided. From second years onwards double seater room can be taken. Rooms are clean, there is no problem of water shortage and power cuts. Balcony is also provided in every room and 24x7 WiFi and geyser, are additional facilities
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are extremely helpful here in MZU Architecture department. The are always available to guide there fellow juniors. As many students stay in hostels so interaction with seniors takes place in there respective hostels post college hours.
Admission
Admission in MZU for B.arch can be done in following ways 1) Through JEE paper II 2) Through NATA (national Aptitude Test for Architecture) Through JEE paper II - one has to put MZU in top 10 list in your college selection list on JOSSA website. There are in all 7 rounds and additional 2 rounds at the end. The JOSSA college selection process usually takes place in the month of July. Admissions for first years in taken place in first week of August every calendar year. Through NATA, once the results are declared one has to visit MZU website and click on Admissions. You have to fill a form with a pdf of your NATA score card to be uploaded there.
Faculty
Faculties are highly experienced in MZU Architecture department. Many have completed there Masters abroad and bachelors from premium institutions such as IITs, SPA, JNUFA, JJ, NIT etc. There are in all 12 faculties including guest faculties and the permanent ones. The HOD himself has an experience over 30 years in the field of Architecture. Most of the faculties are the local Mizos and from North East.
