Remarks
Well, Presidency University (Erstwhile Hindoo College) is the oldest and one of the very first colleges to be established in India and is over 200 years old. Now a university, Presidency's allumni includes the two nobel laureates Amartya Sen and Abhijit Banerjee, the famed critic Gayatri Chakraborty Spivak while also being the alma mater to hallmarked names such as Henry Louis Vivian Derozio and others. Thus Presidency's famed English department had always been a dream seat to me and I'm humbled that I have got to study here.
Course Curriculum Overview
Well, I don't have any qualms regarding the English Department. We have a well stocked library dedicated to the Arts section, our professors are very competent and are pursuing/have pursued research in varied fields with numerous papers published in notable research articles. Our professors often urge us and guide us towards research, revert back to us regarding our term papers and foster discussions in class whose topics cover varied discursive practices.
Placement Experience
The arts department haven't been visited by any companies for job placements but universities in India and overseas visit us to offer or collaborate for research, for instance the call for papers and the gradual selection process in which the person who's academic paper is selected recieves an offer of presenting it there in.
College Events
The campus life is extraordinary where discussions on Marxist policy to failures of Capitalism, arthouse cinema to thoughts of Derrida and Lacan, everything is discussed in between lectures. The university has different societies dedicated to debate, quize, sports, cinema, etc.
Campus Life
Presidency University has got an entirely colonial infrastructure that dates back to British occupied India with it's all expansive white domes, marble structures, wide corridors that makes one unwittingly realise the architechtural beauty of collonial buildings. We have well equipped labs, one of the best in Calcutta. Two large buildings dedicated to libraries, a sports ground which is being constructed anew, two canteens which offer a wide range of food and a museum as well!
