Remarks
Being among the top universities in India, this is the best one can dream of nothing more, nothing less.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our course is based on AICTE guidelines and curriculum, following rules of the UGC. And being an autonomous institution, it follows its own exam pattern, which in way, I guess, is one of the best patterns. Seminar, presentations are frequently done. Industrial visits like visit to Numaligarh Refinery Limited, ITC, Guwahati, Britannia, Guwahati, NEEPCO, etc. Despite all, the on campus placements are little low maybe because of the location as it is about 9-10 kilometres away from the main Tezpur city.
Placement Experience
Maybe because of the location the overall placement is little bit low, but some of the companies that visited are Simplex Infrastructures, Power Grid, AMUL, Patanjali, Zaloni, Oil India Limited, etc. The T&P cell provides info about internships through mail.
College Events
TechXetra- the biggest techno-cultural fests in North East India after Alcheringa, IIT Guwahati. This is organised by the school of Engineering. The school of sciences organise one of the biggest science fest in the state, Inscignis: the science fest on National Science Day. The Scool of Humanities and Social Sciences and school of Business Administration too organise such events. The Tezpur University Students council organizes a month long Varsity week, a grand cultural night on the annual day, Cultural nights during Bihu and many more.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For engineering courses, the fee is about Rs 25, 000 per semester which includes all (incl. hostel fee) except the mess dues of the hostels, which are collected monthly in hostel(about Rs1800/month). For other courses, the fee slightly differ(within Rs 15000- Rs 25000). Apart from these, there are 1-2 seats reserved in each department for a scheme called Self Supported Scheme (SSS), where one needs to pay more than twice the original fee.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have opted for the the Ishan Uday scholarship, offered to the North Eastern students. This can be applied through the National Scholarship Portal.
Campus Life
It has one of the beautiful campuses. It has about 50:50 gender ratios. Student parties are held at hostels, departments and sometimes as a whole for the entire University. Students from different parts of India study here. Even international students study here. It has its own sports complex, which is one of the best, including football field, cricket field, volley ball court, badminton court, lawn tennis court, swimming pool, etc. Competitions are held several times a year. Students from lower class to upper class family, everyone studies here. In a nutshell, it is one of the best Universities.
Hostel Facilities
Yes. 2 students in a single room. There are enough rooms of all the students in the hostels, as it is a residential campus. There are very few PGs near the campus. So one doesn't need to worry about PGs. All the hostels collectively can accomodate the students.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. Seniors have always been helpful, be it in the hostels, be it in the departments, and even outside the campus. Alumni Network is good too. An association named Tezpur University Alumni Association is also there to help everyone.
Admission
Tezpur University is among the top universities in India. I had a dream of studying here. Also, I wanted to study engineering and as such I opted for the course. Selection for BTech courses are done through JEE scores, either through CSAB allotment or the ones from the North East India can apply for the for NorthEast quota based admission. Selection for all other courses are done through Tezpur University Entrance Examination, held at all important cities in India. One can apply in the university website, appear for the entrance, if selected can opt for the course.
Faculty
Our department has about 12 faculty members and some other technical officers and assistants. Average age is 40years. All have a M. tech degree and 80% have PHD degree. They try their best to make everything clearer to the students. Ans yes, the lecturers do hold some certifications. Also, one of the faculties got a president award for development of a mobile based app for detecting turbidity.
