Remarks

The college is not really what one would expect from a regular college since at its heart, it is a research institute. However, it is adaptable and seeks to provide a good environment to the few students it enrolls to mould them into good researchers. We admit that this is kind of a niche, but being the oldest research institute in India, we are proud of it.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum involves the studying of all basic sciences (physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, computer science) for the first three semesters, with English, environmental sciences and public speaking as additional subjects. For the fourth semester onwards, there are majors chosen by the students. The curriculum is built on the foundations given in the first three semesters, and the course is both research oriented and industry knowledge and exposure is provided. This equips students to stand strong at par all other students in the country and internationally. Visits to labs are regular, and hands on experience is extensive.

Placement Experience

4

Since we are the first batch, our placement year has not yet come. However, we have availed internships both inside and outside the institute including places like IIA, Bangalore. The teachers help us in preparing our applications, and groom us well to be able to be an asset in our respective labs.

College Events

3.5

All national events - intra college Science day - inter college (school students also visit) College Fest - 2 day Fest that is again inter college Agomoni - pre Durga puja cultural event by SAC, IACS. Freshers and orientation - organised by the staff and RSA of IACS Intermittent events are visits by eminent scientists and counseling events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Feasible. There are multiple payment methods suitable for different people. The college provides transparency in the breakdown and we rarely have to pay any extra charges except for events. Being a national level research institute it is actually not very expensive, although I would not call it very low as per fee terms.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college does not offer scholarships to undergraduate students but in the fourth year of the course, every student who has a GPA above 7.5 is eligible for a stipend provided by the institute.

Campus Life

4.5

Gender ratio is balanced (there are almost equal number of boys and girls). The hostel life is not very happening but the students have bonded well among themselves. There are photography, debate and art clubs. All students, regardless of race, religion, gender and the like are welcome to join the clubs. Communal politics is absolutely non existent, and gender politics is not really something that occurs here. Economic discrimination is also not seen as such because there are students of all economic classes who study and live together in harmony and sexual orientation is not really anyone's concern here. The science day event is held with pomp, and there are exhibits of scientific models prepared by the students. There are debates and essay competitions held during and before the annual Fest.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Yes. The hostels are 2-seater rooms for girls. The rent is 2000 rupees per month. The hostels are hygienic, although we could ask for better washrooms. The floors are provided with washing machines, microwave ovens and refrigerator and good water and sanitation facilities.

Alumni/Alumna

We happen to be the first batch for our course. However, the MSc students and the PhD research scholars, who are our seniors, are really helpful. I have been assisted a lot in my project work.

Admission

I got in through an interview based on Merit list. The process seems fair enough because the concepts are tested thoroughly during the interview so only the most deserving ones get a chance to enter here. The admission begins in April with the issuing of notification. The exam is held in May and the academic year begins in July.

Faculty

4.5

All the faculty are highly qualified, being researchers themselves. There are 12 lecture hours per week, and 12 lab hours per week. The average age is on the higher side, and qualification is at least a minimum of 1 PhD in their respective fields for all faculty members. Most of them are excellent teachers and effective communicators. Also their research experience helps them to provide higher level information and insights into the research sphere.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum in this college is uoto date, very relevant and with at par with the real world scenario, we learn about disorders, different schools of psychology and a lot more. There is a perfect balance of practical and theory, which is needed in psychology. In terms of improvement, there is always room for it, as of now there arent any suggestions from my side. The frequency of exams are fine, they give us time to prepare however I feel like as, according to the NEP, the semesters should be 6 months long but here they are cutting it short.
