Remarks

Extremely flexible college, so students have to be more responsible in order to prevent themselves from getting carried away by inappropriate things.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The normal course structure for a student is as follows: A year is divided in two semesters: August to mid December and January to Mid May In the first year, all the students (irrespective of being M.Sc. or B.E. student) have same subjects In second year, M.Sc. courses are to be done, including other graduation requirements like EVS and Mathematics part 3. There's an option to do humanities electives 2nd year onwards. (Before graduation, student has to earn a fixed number of credits from Humanities electives, discipline electives, i.e. electives of your course, and open electives, i.e. electives not necessarily from your course, in addition to compulsory discipline courses). A lot of exposure is given with respect to the current developments in the subject as well as the applications in real engineering scenarios(since the first year courses are common, this helps is making a wise choice for the engineering degree). As of first year, there are no industrial visits, however I've seen seniors going for visits to power plants.

Placement Experience

5

One more unique part of BITS curriculum is the practice school(PS) program, which is sort of an internship. There's PS1 in the summer after second year, which is of 8 weeks and a PS2 in one of the semesters of the final year. Dual degree students have an option of going for PS2 in both the semesters, provided all other graduation requirements are fulfilled by the end of fourth year. Most students get PPOs during their PS2. The PS program has various stations called PS stations, which the student can choose based on their CGPA and home town. Though not compulsory, most students go for PS. PS1 is a prerequisite for PS2. Regarding placements, there hasn't been any placement season since I've joined campus, so can't say much on that.

College Events

5

There are various events, talks and seminars held in BPHC thouroughout the year, which involves speakers from India as well as abroad, in addition to our own faculty. Apart from these, the campus has 4 more festivals Atmos in October - Our technical fest Verba Maximus in January - Literary fest Arena in January - sports fest Pearl in March - cultural fest The fests see participation from many colleges from within as well as outside Hyderabad.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is slightly on the expensive side. However there's an option of taking a loan if you have financial problems. Also, the people with income level below a certain limit are eligible for a scholarship called Merit cum Need(McN). There are no additional charges for admission. The fee structure is transparent and includes teaching, hostel fees and food.

Fees and Financial Aid

Haven't applied to any scholarships or education loan. However, the campus SBI branch provides loan facility at affordable rates.

Campus Life

5

The campus has people from all over the country. There are a lot of extracurricular activities which include sports and technical clubs and photography, videoshooting, music clubs, etc. Gender ratio is about 2:9. No one in campus generally discriminate on the above mentioned topics. However, there's a lot of cases when people from North India and South India separate from each other, due to communication barriers. However, overall the campus is inclusive. There are a lot of cultural events happening thouroughout the year, with each cultural association giving others a taste of their home state.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Yes, it's compulsory for first degree student to accommodate themselves in hostel. In the first year, student have to share room with one roommate. The rooms are spacious enough for 2 people, and have two beds, two wardrobes and two study tables. Second year onwards, you can choose to have a single or double room. 3rd year onwards, everyone has single rooms.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni is extremely approachable. You can ask them about specific queries, using Facebook and email. They are more than willing to help us. They also guide us in choosing electives.

Admission

The admission is based on an entrance examination called BITSAT, which admits students to various engineering (BE) and M.Sc. courses in all the thouree campuses (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad). The entrance examination is generally in the last week of May, (deadline for application is tentatively by March end) and it's completely computer based having questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English & Logical Reasoning. It's a test out of 450 marks, in which there is a possibility of scoring more than 486. Once you attempt all the 450 marks and submit, and of you still have time left, then you can attempt more 12 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (4 in each of the 3 subjects). I opted for M.Sc. Economics. The course structure followed here is something unique to BITS, because it allows a student to pursue two different fields and get a dual degree (M.Sc. + B.E.) in five years. After the first year, based on our performance, we have an option to select an engineering branch of our choice. Hence, I'll be graduating with an M.Sc. and a B.E. degree. As mentioned earlier, this is different from the dual degrees offered in other colleges.

Faculty

5

Every subject has about thouree hours of lectures per week, in addition to one or two tutorial hours, which is for development of real life problem solving skills. The age of faculty varies, from about 30 years to 60 years, which consists of teachers who've recently got their PhDs as well as teachers who've been in this field for 20-25 years. Most of the teachers are approachable, who go out of their way to clear the concepts. Apart from teaching, the faculty is involved in inter department and inter University research, in collaboration with various colleges in India and abroad.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite relevant and comprehensive offering a balanced combination of theoretical and practical knowledge for learning. This curriculum helps in developing both conceptual clarity and analytical skills and prepare students well for real - world challenges as well as higher academic pursuits. This curriculum is strong and valuable. The frequency and timing of exams are generally reasonable though at times.

It is an amazing course. Helps me understand the concept very deeply the curriculum is also really good. Every teacher has their own way of teaching some can improve but it is fine we can try to study and understand by ourselves a bit. When it comes to internals its of 20 marks we have as such three of them for one sem and avg of 10 is taken from it internals are of 1hr and externals will be about 2hrs 30mins and labs of 3hrs

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of the biotechnology course includes all the relevant topics needed to gain information about the subject. The curriculum also includes currently developing topics of interest which may gain popularity in the future (like bioinformatics). It thoroughly prepares us for real world applications as we gain exposure to various fields of interest in the subject and get a hands-on training in the subject. Ab area i would like to suggest for improvement is to alot equal no. Of periods to different papers in the subject as each topic has its own value in the academic and career purpose. The internals are conducted every month within a duration of 1 hour for each paper. there are currently 4 internals for our batch, each of 10 marks. The externals or the end semester exams are conducted at the end of the semester approx 6 months, which are of 50 marks. 10 marks is alloted for attendance, bringing the total to 1000.
