Remarks
Overall I would say it really felt lucky to be part of such prestigious institute.
Entrance Preview
BITS conducts a HD (higher degree) entrance exam just like BITSAT.I scored 118, cut off for Pilani campus software systems in 2012 was 116, just got lucky to be inside. I opted for it because of the brand name of Pilani campus, and great opportunities that students get in this campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
Very well designed, I loved the way they designed compulsory and optional subjects, giving students options to choose. Also all kinds of tests like take home assignment, open book, closed book exams, surprise quizzes, projects etc, if you are not at one, you can always try to do better in other.
Internships Opportunities
BITS have Practice school concept, with huge amount of companies, I had my internship at Microsoft Research Bangalore, with stipend of 35k pm. It really awesome experience to witness great research work so closely. Besides this, BE students have a summer internship too, in their 2.5 months summer holidays , that too is in reputed organisations like ISRO, DRDO etc.
Placement Experience
BITS have placement in odd and even sem both, odd sem is better but competitive one. I sat in odd sem, cant say for entire college, but higher degree placement was okay, out of 40 people of masters from computer and software system field, only 8-9 left out , most of them got their Practice school converted to full time job. Today after 1.5 years of graduating, I dont see anyone unemployed from our batch. Avg package on campus should be more than 10 LPA, but thats CTC. For computer science filed alone, around 35-40 companies came.
College Events
OASIS cultural fest, most of the delhi college students(girls) come and show their talent, thats the time when you feel some greenery in the deserts of Pilani. APOGEE, tech fest, not as much fun happening as OASIS, off course because its tech fest BOSM, sports one, really good team from around northern India colleges come, its really big event. Besides this some smal small event every time by management department or this department, that department etc keep on happening, they good to eat food on the stalls installed in campus.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Yes, kind of expensive. My time it was 80 k per sem tution, then hostel and others (which was not that much). Every year they increase tution fees by around 10k.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes yes definitely yes, again for masters I can say. We got offered teaching assistant ship, or research assistant ship as a part time job, It earned me 8800 per month , plus 40 % discount on tution fees. I did my entire masters for free. But you have to give interview for TA ship, nearly 2/3 students got TA ship in first sem, left out got in second sem. For BE people, I saw a lot of mails on college student's alias from director or management regarding so many scholarship opportunites, we were earning good, so we never paid attention.
Campus Life
Campus is very awesome, no question about its tolerance. Students and faculty were very friendly, about extracurricular, they were enormous, I never related myself to any of them, but there is a complete building for student activity center (SAC), people sit there and do kinds of stuff entire day.
Hostel Facilities
For masters, first sem sharing, but it was pretty big room, then single from second sem onwards. Hostel food is always same, it was better than my bachelor college.
Alumni/Alumna
Very well connected alumni network, all kinds of facebook pages, people keep on helping each other, august first is celebrate in all parts of world as BITSian day, which so ever city you are , you gather and just party.
Exam Structure
like I said in answers to ques 2 , Also all kinds of tests like take home assignment, open book, closed book exams, surprise quizzes, projects etc etc.It was damn hectic I must say, 4.5 months of a semester, you wont even have time for anything , depends
Faculty
Few were ok, few were very well experienced in their field. Many of the masters lecturers were ok ok, but I liked attenting lectures of BE faculty, they were pretty good.
