Remarks
Being a government-aided autonomous college, the administration is a bit sluggish. The exams are kept very close with minimum time to prepare. Even 2 papers on the same day. The professors are least approachable and rarely help you in your research.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus is good but very vast. The entire syllabus for M. Tech is crammed in one year. The second-year is solely for Matters Thesis. There is a continuous assessment system and the vast syllabus leaves you no free time at all.
Placement Experience
M. Tech Structural Department does not allow internships for GATE Qualified and Stipend Eligible candidates. That's the drawback. There will be a lot of teaching assistance work, which will be much more than the minimum of 8 hrs weekly as per AICTE rules.
College Events
As far as cultural events are concerned there are a couple of them named Enthusia and Pratibimb. The cultural fest is not much big but Technical Event is huge. Well-known persona from the national level are called for technical events and lecture series. Apart from that, various days are also celebrated. During the Dussehra festival, Structural Department gives free lunch to students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees are the same for all in the case of M. Tech courses, regardless of category like Open/OBC, etc. The fee for M. Tech Structural Engineering Course is about INR 87000 for all students. There is no scholarship concession in fees because M. Tech Students get stipends or are sponsored by industry.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are basically 2 types of admissions, sponsored by industry and non-sponsored. Non-sponsored candidates will get Stipend if they have qualified for the GATE exam. Sponsored students are assumed to be sponsored by industry and generally have lower cutoffs and no stipend. The stipend for Post Graduates is currently INR 12400.
Campus Life
There are lots of extracurricular activities. Sports clubs etc. There is also an entrepreneurship cell, a robotics cell, etc. There is no bias at all on basis of any factor with Regards To Gender, Ethnicity, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Politics, And Economic Status.
Hostel Facilities
As of now, there is no hostel facility for Post Graduates. So no question about hostel fees, etc. However, Graduates have a hostel facility which is limited seats distributed based on merit. The average rental in Mumbai near the college area is about INR 20000 to 40000 for 1 BHK flat which students generally share among them.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute is very strong. You can even contact unknown alumni and they will help you get recommendations. The professors are the key personnel in keeping such a strong alumni network. Regular alumni meet are held from time to time.
Admission
The basic criteria for getting an admission to VJTI in any master's course is through a national level entrance test called GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Generally, the GATE score is valid for 3 years. To take admissions, you should have a positive GATE score.
Faculty
The faculty are well educated, mostly doctorate faculties. They are talented but very busy and not much available. You have to understand your subjects almost on your own. In rare cases, you will get help from faculty.
