Remarks

Space is a constraint. More multi-story hostels like 100 floors are needed. Also, trees and wildlife need to be protected, the lake needs to be protected. Over the last 20 years, vegetation has considerably reduced lake land has encroached. MTech dropouts are an issue, top gate rankers leave college after getting PSU jobs leaving seat void. The current size of my batch is 50%, govt made a law but it was reversed.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Power Electronics is primarily a PG subject in India. The curriculum covers all relevant R&D topics in this area happening all over the world, from facts devices, multilevel converters, motor drives, renewable energy converters, software development for a future power system. There are many assignments, simulation projects, hardware projects in every course, and finally 1-year long thesis project related to full-fledged development of power electronic system. This rigorous journey makes us aware of both analytically and practically to work on real research projects. Alumni cite the importance of the above methods of learning to train them to tackle problems in the industry. Industrial visits are course-specific, such as hydel power station, or solar plant visit. The visits were accompanied by assignments that aimed to use practical data and analyze using concepts covered in theory classes.

Placement Experience

4

Placement is 100% before covid19, companies such as GE, Bajaj, Murata, Hitachi, Mercedes, Eaton recruited this year. Placement cell manages everything about placement, IITB ranks 1 in terms of placement overall, in my program, it is 3rd best in India. Students register for companies, attend talks, appear for interviews which are technical for my branch. Projects and technical knowledge is tested, students in my branch are advised to keep working on projects. In Btech, companies also look for HR, management, finance, consultancy, etc. The internship is for Btech people only.

College Events

5

Many technical workshops, technical events, and competitions happen round the year. The tech culture in IITB is the best in India. Cultural events happen round the year from intra to international. Mood Indigo is Asia no 1 cultural festival. InterIIT tech meet, inter IIT cult meets happen every year. Apart from that, there is a complete technical and cultural calendar for the year, even there are an app IITB Culturals on the play store. IITB is a role model of Asia for its events and festivals calendar. Everyone knows about events in IITB open to the world, but the foundation behind it is every hostel has its own calendar, cultural and gaming parties are held 4 times a semester. Every hostel has its own YouTube channel. Management events happen in all the above-mentioned festivals. A separate finance club exists and it conducts proper courses for management, even there is SJSOM, a management school in college awarding MBA. Many technical, cultural, and sports clubs exist. Their Facebook pages are followed by an overwhelming no of students across the country.

Fee Structure And Facilities

BTech for the general category is too expensive, it amounts to 3 lac pa. MTech and Ph.D. students get stipend so they can easily afford. Also, reserve category students don't pay any fees, their official expenditure towards college may be less than 20k pa. There are no hidden fees, everything is openly available. The college charges nothing compared to facilities it provides, just tuition fees decided by GoI, and mess charges. Hostel fees are nominal 1k pa.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are many banks within the campus, Canara and SBI, they provide many loans from laptop to full 4-year tuition at very less interest rate without any mortgage. Loans are for BTech people only. MTech gets 12k per month, Ph.D. gets 30k per month, Postdoc gets 50k per month.

Campus Life

5

The campus is built on lands of the national park, so wild animals like leopard and crocodile are frequently sighted throughout campus. The gender ratio is improved by giving reservation to female students. Labs are world-class, related to current industry challenges. There is a technical club which is followed by students all over India. Online workshops conducted by these attract thousands of students countrywide. There are calendars for sports, technical events, cultural events separately for college and hostel-wise. More than 50% of people are from the reserved category, so you can say the merit of the general category is not respected. Students from NorthEast are less, Christian and Muslim are in abundance, there is very less representation of general category Hindus, Hindu festivals are not much attended, even any religious festivals are not popular. The culture is the nonexistence of God, communist, primarily technical. Everyone has a technical dream and everyone wants to work towards that. You can say culture is American, people debate about the reservation and it is a most feared topic on the campus.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel rooms are shared and all UG have to live inside the campus. Few Ph.D. and researchers could not be allotted rooms because rooms are lesser than required. It will require 2 years to complete a new hostel. Old hostels are being demolished and newly constructed. Rooms will always be in a crunch for higher studies. Fees are nominal, less than 1k pa. Private rooms outside the campus are very expensive, 8k per month because of Mumbai.

Alumni/Alumna

BTech have a strong alumni network, MTechs lot of work is required. Alumni come for providing internships, guest guidance lectures, and sometimes placement. They are a great resource for BTech people. A lot of work needs to be done on PG and Ph.D. alumni.

Admission

Course: Power Electronics, important for renewable energy and electric mobility in near future. IIT Bombay Power Electronics is 3rd best in placement after IISc & IITK. I got admission through BTech GPA and technical interview. The primary mode of admission is through GATE.

Faculty

4

There are 10 faculty for my program, some of them are in their late 30s, most of them in their early 50s, so all of them will continue for at least 10 years from now. The faculty has many patents, industry-grade projects apart from research papers in journals. The faculty here are eminent in India, they are examiners of the Ph.D. thesis of other IITs also, they are leaders of academia in India.

Placement Experience:

The university has one of the quality placements in India. The placement committee of the university is properly privy to the groups and college students' necessities and pursuits and the committee put together us accordingly. For our batch, the very best placement package deal went as much as sixty-five LPA and the common placement package deal turned into around 17.50 LPA. Few college students have been very lucky to acquire pre-placement offers. Companies like Uber, Ruberik, Millennium, Black Stone, Barclays, CITI Bank, Delloite, Accenture, EY, PwC, Infosys, Samsung, Amway, Wipro, Loreal, Marico, and so on visited our campus for placement power withinside the university.
