The course curriculum for Botany (Hons.) is at par with the current syllabus of West Bengal State University. It is a full-time course with a duration of 3 years and the curriculum is set for each year separately. The session for First Year (that includes theoretical papers I and II, and practical paper I) is from August to June, for the second year (theoretical Paper IV-V and practical paper VI) its is September to July whereas for the Third Year(theoretical paper VII,VIII and practical papers-IX,X), they have October-February session. The examinations are usually held a month later, after the completion of the academic session for each year. At present, the college does not provide any internship opportunities to the students. But, meritorious students who score high each year, get scholarships. Industrial visits take place once in a while and seminars are conducted that help students to broaden their approach to their study and understand the future prospects.

Admission

Botany is a subject that goes beyond conceptualizing the life cycle of plants. So, loving activities like gardening cannot be the only purpose of opting for this subject. The syllabus of Botany for Bachelor's degree comprises of study about fossils, plants, the relationship of plants with environment, taxonomy, physiology, anatomy and cell biology of plants. This course aids in channeling opportunities towards becoming taxonomists, ecologists, mycologists and agronomists. Additionally, Bachelor in Science with Botany (Hons.) is the right career option for students aspiring to be scientists. The chief factors that make Barasat Government College, the best option for students opting Bachelors in Botany (Hons.) are as follows: 1. Experienced and highly qualified faculty. 2. The college received Post Graduate status in 2003 and got affiliated under West Bengal State University in 2008. As a fact, students receive exposure to modern techniques and tools which are primarily used in research laboratories only. 3. The laboratories are well-equipped with advanced machinery due to which students get hands-on experience for using the advanced equipment. Previously, the procedure was offline where students had to collect forms from the office and fill it up. At present, the admission procedure is completely online. The students need to visit the official website of the college, fill up the admission form and wait for the merit list to be published. The merit list is published on the official website. Around 3 to 4 rounds of merit lists are published, from which students get selected. Since the selection procedure is completely dependent on the scores obtained by the students and the fact that Barasat Government College has a track record of excellent academic results, students with higher academic scores are sure to make way.

4

Faculty is highly qualified with years of experience in the field. Classes are held regularly at the stipulated time. In most of the cases, the practical classes are held over a extended time span to let students get in-depth knowledge of the subject area.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
