Remarks

Overall, the college manages to imbibe work-level competitiveness among students. Due to the lack of support from the college in several aspects, as explained above, students are taught to be self-sufficient and not rely on the college for persistent help and guidance.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course structure of SSE spans over three years, divided into six semesters. Each semester spans around four to four and a half months. The course begins with introducing the basics of economics via microeconomic and macroeconomic theories. It is not necessary for any candidate to be from an economics background, as the course repeats school level economics and mathematics during the first year to get students from different streams at par. Intensive study begins from the second year as more advanced concepts are introduced and tougher subjects like econometrics take the place of normal mathematics. The course also ensures that apart from hardcore academics, students are also involved in non-academic activities like writing research papers and a dissertation, which is essential in developing skills necessary for life after college.

Placement Experience

1.5

The college does not provide ample job opportunities as the placement cell of the college is not well developed as of yet. Campus placements are conducted by limited (less than 10) companies and hardly 10 percent of the batch gets placed via the college. In terms of internships, every student is supposed to engage in compulsory internship work for at least 150 hours, twice over three years. Even though the internship process is compulsory, the college provides little to no assistance in finding internship opportunities for students and most of the students rely on personal contacts or Internet services to enroll for an internship.

College Events

3

The college hosts several events over the years, organised and conducted by the students on an annual basis. Chronologically, the list of events are: 1. Founders Day, celebrated in the first month of college to commemorate the beginning of a new academic year and also to welcome the freshers of the college. 2. Ethnic Day, celebrated within the first two months of the academic year where students dress in ethnic attires and perform music, art and dance to celebrate the cultural diversity of the college. 3. Economist of the Year, an event organised over a period of more than a month where students from across India can participate and compete against each other. Economic issues are discussed and debated over several rounds before a winner is finally decided. 4. Equilibria, the annual fest of the college, takes place in the month of January which receives a footfall of over 4,000 people, wholly managed and organised by students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure of the college is expensive. The annual fees for an academic year crosses 1.5 lakh rupees, which is not justified as the college does not even provide basic amenities essential to students, like sporting facilities. The campus does not contain any form of leisure activities for the students, apart from a common gymnasium and the quality of faculty does not represent the amount of fees paid to the college.

Campus Life

1.5

The college provides no infrastructure towards sports to the students. The students who are interested in partaking in such activities pay out of their own pockets to travel and train. Apart from sports, the college does not actively promote any extracurricular activities and the burden of promoting and maintaining clubs solely lies on the students.

Admission

The admission process of SSE is bifurcated. The first step involves appearing for a written examination, the Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) which tests the arithmetic, logic, reasoning and grammar skills of the candidate. The exam also tests the general knowledge and awareness of the candidate via moderate to easy questions. The exam does not require extensive preparation or any private tuition, but keeping up with the news and maintaining a strong command over the English language is more than enough to clear the examination with good figures. The examination is followed by an interview by the instituition which involves interaction with college faculty and writing an impromptu essay, on any given topic which might be economic or non-economic in nature. The interview with college faculty involves answering some basic questions pertaining to economics, and it is followed by casual conversation where the candidate is supposed to prove his or her worth to the college.

Strong academic legacy with expereinced faculties and balanced content- preparing you for future studies and entrance exams and olympiads. very much strict, i would say not needed. somehwere you may experience baised behaviour; but when you are focused on gaining knowledge then these things dont matter as its only a matter of three years. Relevance of course is there but for applying for further studies not for that much for job prospects, if you want atleast a decent salary job.

I have rarely seen companies coming to our college for placement purposes for our course but I have seen companies coming for BCOM and BCA. I don't know about my course as I am currently in my second year. The percentage of students getting placements are veryess as my friend from third year said that out of 150 students only 10 students got placed this year which is very less compared to other colleges. My plans after getting the degree is if I got a job in any of the it company I will do it for experience and side by side I am planning to pursue my education in MSC CS
