Remarks

College focusses more on jobs than education. Their aim is to prepare you for the industry. Preparation for exams like GATE is highly discouraged. They don't only not help you but actually discourage you to not take it. But tell you try for GRE.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

For our batch the curriculum seemed very outdated. The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formerly WBUT) sets the curriculum for all government and private colleges in west bengal. However, from this year the syllabus has been revised and it seems much better and updated. You 2 internal exams organized by college with 30% weightage and one final exam organized by university with 70% weightage each semester.

Placement Experience

3.5

There's no scope of internship. College discourages it. And placements are just about numbers. Cognizant and Infosys are two main mass recruiters who take the most people for a pitiful package of 3.5LPA. However cognizant comes again for 6.5LPA offer each yr. Infosys also hires through hackathon for 5LPA and 8LPA. ITC also comes with 4lpa offer. Some other companies also come and organize pool drives. All in all, you should get placed if you're average but your salary won't be much.

College Events

4

College has no fresher's party or cultural fest. However there's a tech fest each year in april and farewell party for each department in may. Both organized by students themselves. College provides funds for the tech fest though.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is feasible in whole of west bengal. You pay around ?40k per Semester in private college and about 6k per semester in government colleges. These are probably very cheap as compared to most private colleges in India.

Fees and Financial Aid

MAKAUT provided Tution fee waiver for students who aren't capable economically. Also for some specific castes with reservation, I'm not sure. However to avail any of these waiver, you must have domicile in West bengal.

Campus Life

2

There's plenty of sports. You have a big ground in the back and you can play there after class. Interdepartmental tournaments for football (separate for both genders), cricket (separate for both genders), table tennis and badminton are held each year. There's also a sports day each year with different sports organized. Labs are decent for computer science and IT people. It is good enough for hardware guys too but just good enough.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is very weak here. College discourages interactions between seniors and juniors in the first year to prevent cases of ragging but that break of connection usually persists and most juniors don't know any seniors apart from the ones they meet outside or on field, who in most cases aren't the studious ones.

Admission

Took WBJEE 2015 and then went through online and offline counseling. We had online choice filling for different Colleges in west bengal and their streams. After being alloted a stream, we could choose to keep that or opt for upgradation.

Faculty

3

Software faculty were generally decent. In fact humanities, physics and mathematics ones were actually better than the rest. However they are short on hardware faculties. So badly that VLSI as elective which University allows isn't even an option for CS people.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months
