Remarks
The best thing out my college is, that it is a college, it does not spoon feed or cares for you like it is done in other similar colleges. From the first day itself you are on yourself. Seniors and teachers are there to help and guide you. But this independence given by college should as a string personalty when one graduates from college. I am happy that i chose JSS, and not other colleges for this reason itself. Apart from that the college is like any other UPTU engineering college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is the same age old curriculum, with same book, old authors and old and outdated topics in syllabus. New topics are added but old dysfunctional topics are never removed. We had semester based exam pattern. In every semester we study 6 subjects(mostly). We had internals and externals. Internals for 30 marks, conducted 3 times in a semester and the end semester exams for 100 marks. 10 marks in each subject were teacher assessment and 10 marks for assignments. total per semester was 1000 marks including General Proficiency for 50 marks.
Placement Experience
For other branches such as EC, CS, IT and EE, placements were good, but for civil, there were no placements offered by any core company. Even a limited no. of sales and IT firm allowed citizens to participate, but the students themselves were not keen to join them. My college has JSS Step which is an incubation center, a few students from CS department, did score internships(to be done compulsorily after 3rd year).
College Events
Mythri- It is a sports meet than happen once a year, usually in odd semester in October. It is a 3 day event with both indoor and outdoor games such as cricket, football, badminton, basketball and athletic events. Zealicon- It is the technical and cultural fest that happen once a year, usually in even semester in March. Events include dance and music and technical competitions.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees is a little less when compared to other privates college of the same category, the reason being as the students says, that this college belongs to JSS Mahavidyapeetha Trust. But overall it is feasible for a middle class man as per today.
Fees and Financial Aid
My college does not offer any scholarship, but scholarships are available for students whose family income is less than 2 Lakh per annum. These scholarships are offered by UP Govt. General students get 56000, obc 75000, and sc/st is 100000. I don't know the exact figures but the scholarships are in this range as I have heard from people.
Campus Life
Labs are all well equipped, sports participation is on the interest of students, dance and music students can practice in rooms. College does not stop you, but it does not even push you to do any extracurricular activity. Students themselves are willingly participating and creating a good environment for the benefit of all.
Hostel Facilities
No, I could not get hostel accommodation due to less hostel capacity, so I stayed in a private hostel for 1 year, as most of the other students and then rented a flat with my friends for the next 3 years. But I have seen the hostel from inside, the room is enough for twin sharing but the students are forced to stay in triple seating. The mess is no different from other college mess, the same story everywhere.
Alumni/Alumna
It is upon the individual students. You may stay in touch with your seniors and seniors are more than happy to help. The college has no role in it. It is simply a senior-junior relationship. If you want help you may ask your seniors, but particulty I don't think there is a very strong alumni network.
Admission
I gave my UPSEE exam in 2015, held in April. It is a state level entrance exam in UP. After the declaration of result, counselling is commenced, where the student is supposed to d=fill choices and according to merit and seat availability he/she is allotted a seat. After seat allocation, report to the college, submit fees and here you go on a journey of 4 years.
Faculty
In first year the faculty is common for all years so it was good. But the faculty in my department, i.e. civil, was particularly not so good, teachers had language issues as lot of them were south Indian(*not a racist remark), there were communication issues, some were knowledgeable, some were very amateurish but all of them were helpful. Students in my college preferred to study themselves than to listen to lecturers, cause they were unable to teach properly. Mere good knowledge does not bring along good teaching skills.
