Course Curriculum Overview
I like how the course is multidisciplinary. You have 4 major subjects, common to everyone, and then you can choose your specialisation. There are 4 available right now - Design for society, strategic design, theoretical design, and experience design. The exam structure is pretty simple. You are evaluated continuously on the basis of your assignments, and you have a final jury in the end.
Placement Experience
The placements and job opportunities for Master's in Design at NIFT are really good. Yes, we have to do an internship between out second and third semester. The college does not provide internship, but the faculty members help us connect to people in the field we want to work, in future. So it's good.
College Events
Being in the first semester, the first event I attended was the orientation programme, which lasted for three days. Then we had 3 freshers party, one was thrown for us by the seniors, the second one was a common event for all the freshers in the campus by NIFT, and the third one was sponsored by some media brand.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure for Master's in Design is pretty feasible, I would say, as compared to private design colleges. For our batch, it is about 1,50,000 per semester. Some students have also opted for a loan.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are a few scholarship programs available. There is one merit-based scholarship program, for which they look at your first and second semester marks. Then there is another scholarship program called Sarthak, which is offered to the people who have lesser annual income (they have a specific higher limit).
Campus Life
Unfortunately, there is no playground at NIFT Delhi campus. But still, the students play in the kind area (a step-well themed amphitheatre), which is the highlight of our campus. Also, students here okay badminton, basketball, table tennis. There are a few clubs here too, like the social club, literary club, sports club, dance club, photography club, etc.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, the seniors are really helpful here. And the alumni network seems to be fine, too. We have some alumni over, for the orientation and they talked to us about how to make your place in the industry, too. You can always reach out to a faculty member if you need to find an alumnus to be helped from.
Admission
There was an entrance exam called NIFT entrance, which was conducted in January 2019. There are total 117 seats all over India, for MDes, except the NRI seats. The entrance test had two phases - the GAT and CAT. After which, there's GDPI round. I got common merit rank 112, and category rank 15. Then we had counselling round where you have to choose your center (available WRT merit ranks), and I chose NIFT Delhi. That's how I got my admission at NIFT Delhi.
Faculty
I like the faculty of my college. They are qualified and know how to deal with students. They start teaching you from the basics and that too, very enthusiastically. Being in the first semester, my experience is pretty good with the faculty here.
