Remarks

Since it is a national institute and it is pretty good, I'd say my college is very nice. It has a lot of extracurricular activities, lot of events and no one ever gets tired there. The festivals are worth enjoying for and the academics are worthwhile as well. Hence, my response is pretty much positive.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is pretty good, I must say( after all it is a national institute). However, for people who just finished their entrance coaching, it's like a butterfly spurting out of the cocoon. They expect that much freedom and much less to study. This is not true. There are loads to study and the first year of engineering consists of all the subjects including biology, mechanics, graphics and so on. This year has been made different because the amount of examinations have been reduced and has been increased with an equal amount of assignments. It is very tiring but, this is actually the best way to learn, in my personal opinion. And also, we learn the subject in more depth. Hence, more fruitful results.

Placement Experience

4.5

The Placement in the computer science branch is 100% placement and it is very good for CS students. Job opportunities are also good as well, providing a well maintained course of training and placements. There is a Training and Placement Cell (TnP) where there are different companies coming and giving online tests to the students seeking internships. Companies like Goldmann Sachs, Qualcomm, SAP etc have all made their marks in the college.

College Events

4.5

We have two main festivals in our college. Tathva - the technical fest and Ragam - the cultural fest. Tathva includes all kinds of workshops like robotics and all, and we've events including Wheels - a showcase of all amazing and varieties of cars and bikes, and all fun things to do related to the engineering phase. There are also DJ nights where we invite well known people like Amit Mishra, DJ Litchi etc. Ragam is more cultural and we all put in months of practice for this fest. It has more hype and it has been there for decades and hence, it is well known in South India. There are also other small events which occur in our college for specific people and it is very entertaining to be part of them or to be the people conducting them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

It is feasible and it depends on your caste and your family's annual salary. For general people( who are not NRIs) they have to pay an amount of Rs.65000/- and for the SC/ST students, they have to pay an amount of Rs.20000/- or even lesser. The NRIs have more than RS.80000 to pay.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am not aware of that sort of thing and I do not quite think that's scholarship and all exists in the college. Try searching for such details in the nitc.ac.in website. It provides most of the information for such things. But I believe such thing doesn't exist.

Campus Life

3

Extracurricular activities are very good there. There are many clubs in the college like the Music Club, Dance and Drama, Audio Visual Club and Indian Cultural Association and so on. They all conduct their own events, go for competitions, make posters and advertise a lot. They also go in other colleges to be get more hyped up and all. Labs are also very good. Everything seems to be existing in good and neat forms. NIT Calicut is pretty good in sports. The basketball team is very good and has been first for a few years now in the inter NIT competitions. There is a volleyball team, a football team, including a girl's football team and cricket team. There is also yoga classes for first years.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel infrastructure is okay. It is built on a slope, hence making a lot of elevators show different floor at different places. The food is okay, not very good. But it's hostel and I guess you have to live with it. But I assure you all that compared to the other hostels, this is pretty good serving. The bathrooms are all very clean and the rooms are pretty congested but pretty much manageable.

Alumni/Alumna

I have not gone for any talks given by any alumni although such talks do exist and is given out in the hall from time to time. Seniors are extremely helpful especially about getting internships and all. We actually need to get such advices because in college, we are to do things on our own and to get help from someone with experience is necessary to move forward.

Admission

I wrote the JEE (Mains) entrance examination and got lucky actually, because there are like 4 different question paper and a single rank list. I was lucky because I received an easier question paper and secured AIR 7377 and got myself into the computer science branch of my home state NIT. It requires a lot of formalities which include going into the NITC website and registering in that(through Josaa) and then being present in the college itself for another round of formalities of getting documents such as our 10th and 13th std Board marks, birth certificate, and all such important documents and getting it all signed by the authorities respectively. It takes quite a while for this whole process to be over with and indeed, it was relief when it was all done.

Faculty

3

The faculty is not very great. Some professors do not give much importance to the fact that they are not that audible and blame on the students that they can't hear anything. But the rest are very much okay and give importance to our learning.

The placement here is top notch. This year in my campus the highest CTC offered was 56.5lpa by PALOALTO. Placements process is centralised at coimbatore though. Students are eligible for campus placements from third year or s5. Average package in computing department ranges from 10-12lpa. My plans after degree is to pursue MS: opportunities of which are provided by the college itself. In computing department almost 90% of the students have been placed according to the seniors I talked to. However it is lower in other streams.

Civil engineering is a course with least placement in every engineering colleges. Students are placed during their fourth year in college. Sobha Constructions Ltd is one of the main companies that visits college. 200000rupees package is the average package offered. Les than 25 percent civil engineers get placed. I plan to prepare for GATE exam and pursue more in this course.
