My brother is a recent graduate of Thapar University so I think I can answer this question.
For the past few years, the university has only focused on enrolling more students and raising the fees. Talking about the COE branch, there are more than 350 students in a batch. This makes the student-teacher ratio really poor. For a class of 80 students, you will find one teacher in the lecture.
If you ask about other branches such as CML or CAG, the university had to shut down the branches because they were not able to provide well-qualified teachers for these branches. So, the branches were shut down after two years, and the students were shifted to the COE department.
Placements: Only a few companies offering a package of INR 10 LPA visit the campus. Most of the companies offer packages of INR 3-9 LPA. Only a few students are placed in companies like Amazon, Deshaw which offer packages of INR 20 LPA. The rest are placed in companies such as TCS and Infosys.
The quality of education has been deteriorating in past years.
The technical fests are not up to the mark. To be honest, there are no good technical events held.
Overall, it is going to be tough for the University to be ranked among the top 50 colleges in the next five years.
