Is it worth doing a B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering from NIT Trichy or not? What are its placement records and whats your experience with this college so far

Honestly, I think doing a B.Tech in ECE from NIT Trichy is a great choice. The curriculum is really aligned with industry needs, and the professors are approachable. I’m currently gearing up for an internship at Qualcomm, which is a promising start. While placements this year faced challenges due to the economic situation, the average package remains impressive at around 14-15 LPA. Plus, the campus is lively with lots of clubs and events. If you’re passionate about electronics and communication, this is definitely a place to consider!

I can confidently say that pursuing a B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from NIT Trichy is worth it. The campus life is vibrant, and while the summers can be brutal, there are plenty of facilities like a swimming pool and gym to keep us active. The college has a strong placement record with around 250 companies visiting every year. Big names like Google and Microsoft are regulars. I’m looking forward to becoming eligible for placements in my 7th semester. The tuition fee is manageable, especially with scholarships available for eligible students.

I spent my last 4 years there, so let me reflect on those days.

First, I’ll categorize students into 3 groups and share the pros and cons of the NIT Trichy ECE department for each group.

Group 1: Students who have no idea about their career path but are joining NIT Trichy ECE for good placements and academic exposure. Most B.Tech students initially fall into this category. NIT Trichy ECE is a solid choice for this group, but only if you’re willing to put in the effort. Electronics and Communication is likely the toughest bachelor’s program at NIT Trichy (EEE is a close competitor). A lack of interest in studies can lead to challenges. Many undergrads mistakenly believe that getting into an IIT/NIT guarantees a bright future—but that’s not the case. On the positive side, I’ve seen many students come in with no prior exposure, work hard, and ultimately succeed in their chosen paths. The department has decent placement statistics. Even during a recession, 70-80% of students got placed, mostly with CTCs ranging from 5 LPA to 40 LPA (the median would be around 10-12 LPA, I guess). If you’re interested in research, ECE has some really impressive faculty!

Doing a B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering at NIT Trichy has been a great decision for me. The curriculum is solid and well-structured, especially in the first year when we get to grasp the basics. I find the courses engaging but definitely challenging, which keeps us on our toes. The faculty here is really supportive, and I appreciate their encouragement. I’ve secured a summer internship at Qualcomm with a good stipend, which has me excited for the future!
