First of all, congratulations on securing a decent percentile! At 98 percentile, your All India Rank would be around 18k. With this rank, you can expect to get a decent branch in a good NIT. However, if you're aiming for NIT Trichy, it all depends on your category and the state you belong to.

If you are in the general category and from other states, you might get core branches in NIT Trichy (in CSAB counseling) such as:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Metallurgical & Materials Engineering
  • Production Engineering

On the other hand, if you are a home state student, you'll have better options and may secure circuital branches in NIT Trichy (in CSAB counseling) like:

  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Instrumentation & Control Engineering

For now, my advice would be—just focus on JEE Advanced! You might get even better choices.

P.S.: Apologies for any grammatical mistakes; English is not my mother tongue!

The cutoff for NIT Trichy for BE/B.Tech is quite competitive. For a general category candidate from Tamil Nadu, you should aim for a percentile between 95 to 100 in JEE Mains. It’s tough, but if you’re dedicated, you can make it. Once you clear the exam, you’ll need to go through the JoSAA counseling, which is pretty straightforward. Trust me, getting into NIT Trichy is worth all the effort!

(Based on 2020 analysis) With a 98.1 percentile, your estimated rank would be around 21,000 (CRL). Now, here are the possibilities:

  • If you are a HS candidate, you can secure a seat in all other departments except for Computer Science.
  • If you are an OS candidate, you have no chance of getting into any department.

Hey! If you’re looking at NIT Trichy for your B.Tech, you need to know the cutoff is around 95-100 percentile for general category students. I’m also from Tamil Nadu, and I’ve seen many students putting in their best effort to clear JEE Mains because it’s one of the top colleges in India. Once you qualify, the JoSAA counseling is a breeze. Just stay focused, and you’ll get there!

NIT Trichy is an amazing college, but the cutoff for BE/B.Tech is no joke! For general category students from Tamil Nadu, you’re looking at a cutoff of around 95 to 100 percentile in JEE Mains. I’m currently in my second year, and I can tell you that aiming for the higher end of that scale is crucial. After clearing JEE, the JoSAA counseling is pretty easy to navigate, so don’t stress too much about that part! Good luck!
