Which is a better career, NIT Trichy BE/B.Tech or a SSC level government job?

For me, NIT Trichy for BE/B.Tech is a better path compared to an SSC level government job. The internship opportunities are solid, and many major companies like Oracle and Exxon come for recruitment. I’m in my 3rd year and I’ve seen people getting pre-placement offers after internships, which is fantastic. The faculty here are really supportive too, guiding us for internships and higher studies. Plus, the campus life is lively with events like Pragyan and Festember. If you can crack JEE, this college is worth it!

I think NIT Trichy BE/B.Tech is a better choice than going for an SSC level government job. The college has a rigorous curriculum, and I appreciate the structure of our exams with cycle tests and end semesters. The placement opportunities are stellar; my branch has a 100% placement rate! Also, the hostel facilities are great, with everything from gyms to canteens. I’m excited about the tech and cultural fests we have. • 1. You get a job. You join and then feel frustrated because deep down you want a government job. In this case, you can prepare for the SSC simultaneously if the job isn't too draining.
• 2. You don't get a job or choose not to join. Here, pressure builds up slowly after a few months because you'll be jobless initially, and the SSC process is slow. Plus, some family members might question your intelligence. If you can handle that mental pressure, which could last 2–3 years, then go for it. Don't give up!

In both cases, it's doable, but the first option will exhaust you completely, while the second requires a lot of patience. Also, keep this in mind: the cutoffs for UR are sky-high. Take calculated risks! If you're highly motivated, remember that people have cleared CSE while working. I'd recommend preparing for placements as it will also enhance your Maths and English skills—essential for SSC.

Graduating from Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) and working in a public sector bank for over 5 years, I can say I felt a bit embarrassed to tell people I was in banking. However, it’s a respectable officer-level job, and many IITians and NITians work in leading public sector banks. It really comes down to how you view yourself, how much you need that job, and what you believe you deserve. I believed I deserved better.

Now, regarding SSC CGL jobs. I’m currently with the Enforcement Directorate, and I take pride in sharing where I work. An officer-level position through CGL is often better than many companies that recruit from our campus. Those working in significant offices like Customs, Income Tax, and External Affairs tend to be above average and possess strong educational backgrounds.
