Not up to the mark. Many who pursued Chemical Engineering from NIT Trichy ended up in completely different fields. In a batch of 70 students, only 2–3 secure packages of 9 lakhs per annum, while most settle for around 4 lakhs per annum. That’s not worth the effort you put into JEE preparation. A CS graduate from a tier-2 college can earn more than that!

Here’s my sincere advice: choose Chemical Engineering only if you are genuinely interested in it. The curriculum mainly covers thermodynamics and fluids, and it’s not as chemistry-focused as some might think. If you disliked those chapters in class 11, then please don’t take it. You’ll struggle and likely end up with poor grades.

Also, keep in mind that after graduation, chemical engineers often work in remote locations. Gas plants can only be set up in such areas, away from luxurious cities. If that’s not something you’re okay with, then don’t choose this path.

In conclusion, pursuing Chemical Engineering at NIT Trichy may not be worth it unless you plan to pursue a master’s degree at foreign universities, which will require additional effort and investment.

I would absolutely recommend pursuing a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT Trichy. The placement records are stellar—90% overall and 100% for my branch! Major companies recruit here, and a lot of students get pre-placement offers through internships. The hostel facilities are great too, with a gym and sports courts. Overall, the experience has been really positive, and I feel well-prepared for my future.

The rank of NIT Trichy is 11th according to the latest MHRD list. The next NIT ranks somewhere in the 30s.

  • If you get any branch here, take it!
  • You can choose a minor from a different department, so you won’t miss out on anything.
  • Placements for the chemical department are superb. You can also apply for CS companies—no restrictions there!
  • The NIT Trichy tag opens doors to many universities abroad easily.
  • The campus is outstanding! If you want a great campus location, consider NITK.

You’ll face challenges here, but in the end, it’ll be worth it!
