Which is a better college for a B.Com Bhawanipur Education Society College Kolkata or Shri Shikshayatan College Kolkata?

SP
Simi Pandit Posted On : January 20th, 2022
BSc. from Shri Shikshayatan College, Calcutta University (2019)

Both Bhawanipur Education Society and Shri Shikshayatan are reputed colleges in Kolkata. They admit their students on a merit basis. Their cut off is usually high but if you have average scores you will get a chance in their 2nd or 3rd lists.

Shri Shikshayatan is an all girls college and requires a better academic record. Both colleges are more or less the same. They differ in infrastructure, faculty and overall fees. Shri Shikshayatan has better infrastructure than Bhawanipur with better well maintained buildings, auditorium, gym and swimming pool.

Bhawanipur encourages students to join their college clubs and committees, they believe in the holistic development of the students along with academics. The college hosts, organizes and takes part in several inter-college festivals, cultural activities, competitions, etc. which take place all year long. If you prefer being around such activities then Bhawanipur is the right place for you.

The choice entirely depends on the individual and where his or her interests lie. Both are reputed institutions, so you will enjoy the perks these brands offer, you just have to choose what interests you more. A culturally active college or a college mostly inclined towards academics.

What are the pros and cons of studying at Lovely Professional University?

TJ
Tarun Joshi Posted On : May 4th, 2026

LPU (Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab) — honest pros and cons:

Pros:

  • massive infrastructure — one of India's largest campuses, excellent facilities
  • large number of courses and specializations across streams
  • decent placement volume — many companies come for mass hiring (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini etc.)
  • affordable fees compared to other private universities of similar scale
  • strong focus on co-curricular — sports, fests, events
  • good connectivity to Jalandhar and easy travel

Cons:

  • placement quality is variable — average package is decent but median salary can be lower than claimed for some departments
  • less recognized for research compared to BITS, Manipal, VIT
  • massive batch sizes can dilute individual attention
  • brand perception nationally is mixed — top companies less frequent; more service sector recruitment
  • some feel discipline and academic rigor could be higher

bottom line: LPU is a good option if you're not getting VIT, SRM, Manipal, or KIIT. for CSE especially, the coding culture and placement infrastructure are functional. but don't expect IIT/NIT level outcomes. build your own profile — projects, internships, competitive coding — to stand out.

Which is better, VIT or Thapar University?

PJ
Priyanka Joshi Posted On : August 11th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2021)

Since I have friends from both VIT and Thapar, I think I can answer this.

Thapar University:

  • Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is an esteemed institute and among the best institutions in the country. It is considered among the best innovation-driven private universities and technical institutes in the country. After BITS Pilani, it has been ranked as the best private institute.
  • The admissions here are based on JEE score.
  • There is no management quota at Thapar.
  • The placement opportunities at Thapar University are tremendous. The average package at Thapar ranges around 6.7 LPA.
  • The faculties at Thapar are great. You will get to learn both practical and theoretical aspects of subjects. The students are exposed to various internship opportunities as well.

VIT:

VIT Vellore is yet to be at par with Thapar University. Since VIT takes in a huge number of students, the placement quality is declining over the years. The average package at VIT is around 2-3 LPA.

Unless VIT Vellore is closest to your place do not opt for it. Thapar University is better in comparison to VIT Vellore. Hence, go for TU without any hesitation.

Did four students of IIT BHU get a package of 1.54 crore in placements 2019-20? From which branch are they?

BJ
Bhavya Jha Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

The news is absolutely real and has been verified by IIT BHU officials. And as for their branches, one of them is from CSE, 2 from ECE and one from Electrical. However, those 1.54 Crore packages were from US-based companies where the Living costs and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is way higher than that of India. Generally, it includes stock options for 4 years and variable bonuses. The media shows the package without giving any insight into the package breakdown. It sometimes builds unjustified hype and unrealistic expectations for the students. However, the average package offered in IIT BHU was ranging between 10 LPA to 58 LPA.

Why do most chartered accountants fail in the finance courses at IIM Ahmedabad?

NK
Naina Kapur Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Some Chartered Accountants or commerce graduates may have struggled with final courses at IIM Ahmedabad, possibly because the courses are far too advanced and specialized (such as financial engineering subjects), or because IIM A likes to surprise students in a variety of ways.

However, this is a rare case. This does not happen very often.

How are the packages for ECE at PEC Chandigarh?

SJ
Sudhanshu Jha Posted On : April 30th, 2021
Studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2018)

One of my friends studied at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, so I will be able to share some information about their placement process, drives, etc.

  • Companies like Arcesium and Amazon might offer a 30+ package, though few students receive this offer based on their coding skills.
  • Core companies like Sandisk, Texas Instruments, MediaTek, etc. may hire 4-5 candidates from CS, ECE, and EE departments combined.
  • The remaining students get placed in different sectors like IT, Consulting, Banking, etc. These include BCG, JP Morgan, Amadeus, Smartcube, etc.
  • TCS and Infosys are the mass recruiters, they will offer you many opportunities, though they might sometimes not be up to the mark. So try to stay ahead in the competition.

In the below table you will get the placement record of the ECE course of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.

Category

ECE at PEC

Placement Percentage

70%

Recruiters

Airtel, Atkins, Siemens, USHA, Tata, Panasonic, Minda, Samsung, Honda, Hero, NBC, JSW, Mahindra, Hyundai, Orient, L&T, Google, Infosys, Yahoo, Oxigen, WSP, ZS, EXL

Highest CTC

INR 42 LPA

Average CTC

INR 10.2 LPA

Students also get placed by mass recruiters like TCS, or Infosys. But it will be better if you get recruiters from core companies. Therefore, a package of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, is good. Most students get placed. So, if you are thinking of joining PEC, then go ahead with it.

Is NIT Jamshedpur for civil engineering good in terms of placements and packages? What is the average package for a civil engineer?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The answer to this question depends on your interpretation of a good placement.

If you are looking for a decent core/ non core job, NIT Jamshedpur Civil won’t disappoint you. However, if you are looking for very high packages from top brands, you’ll be disappointed. In fact, any core branch (civil, mechanical, electrical, production, metallurgy etc.), won’t fetch you high packages. This can happen only if you have graduated from an old IIT, BITS Pilani, or any other top Engineering college.

For 2023, CE saw 97.29% placements and an average CTC of INR 9.57 LPA.

One can’t assess placement figures correctly through the average package. High salary offers for a handful of students inflate the entire figure. Try to research the future prospects of Civil, and explore your interests.

But overall, the placements are quite good at the Civil department of NIT Jamshedpur. You can expect plenty of offers and a decent salary package.

How's NIT Patna? How's placement here? And who is going to join NIT Patna this year

SR
Sushmita Rajput Posted On : August 29th, 2023
Lives in Patna

NIT Patna is always considered a low-ranking NIT mainly because of its old infrastructure and extremely small campus. NIT Patna's Overall ranking by NIRF is 101 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023. However, these ranking bodies cannot be relied on as their criteria are vague. If you evaluate NIT Patna solely on the basis of academics and placements then trust me it's among the top 15 NITs.

Let's talk about placements first:

NIT Patna Placements 2023 are ongoing and more than 120 companies visited the campus during the placement drive. Around 609 students were placed and the highest package stood at INR 52 LPA whereas the average package stood at INR 14 LPA. Some of the top recruiters included ONGC, Bharat Electronics, Google, etc.

Here are the company-wise placements at NIT Patna:

Name of the Company

CTC Offered

Amazon

INR 1.8 CPA

Meta

INR 1.6 CPA

Google

INR 1.1 CPA

As you can see the placement scenario is great and its expected to improve further in the future. Here are some additional reasons why you need to consider joining NIT Patna

  • Its location in the heart of the city gives students easy access to GATE tuitions. In fact. In 2020 the GATE topper was from NIT Patna
  • The campus is tiny with limited facilities but the Ganga Ghaat of NIT Patna adds beauty to the overall campus and ambiance.
  • The competition is high thereby maintaining the quality of intake.

Overall, NIT Patna is a great institute but fails to get the hype it deserves.
