You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
My belief is that teaching is the only profession that can provide you with ample opportunities to shape the lives of thousands and help individuals grow to the best of their potential. This will in turn help society and the nation grow. This very idea works as a booster for me and is the reason that I have been in the education sector for almost three decades now.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
My philosophy of leadership is collaborative work with due acknowledgement and respect for all team members. I strongly believe in empowering team members and providing them with an environment where they can grow to the best of their potential. My leadership style is participative and collaborative, with lots of personal touch and humane while keeping integrity.
What would you like students to know about your department they may not know?
The Department of Management is the epitome of excellence and aspires to develop into a destination of choice for future managers. Students here get the platform to train themselves with a view to facing the challenges of the corporate world with confidence. Special emphasis is given to their holistic development through a healthy and collaborative learning environment. An integrated approach that combines fieldwork, case studies, presentations, and group discussions is followed by the department to inculcate in students pedagogical and conceptual knowledge along with practical exposure to management concepts and theories. Our department stands out due to students’ centric lifelong learning approach, life skill training, career counselling, personal coaching, a student development cell, a corporate development cell and a faculty development cell.

What do you see as the university’s greatest strengths?
Our university’s greatest strength lies in its location, where thousands of multinational companies are housed and are potential recruiters for the students. Another big advantage of GU is its age. Being a young university, it has all young faculties and staff members who are technically sound and are trained in skills of the 21st century, which they can carry into the classroom for the direct benefit of students.
How is your relationship with the students of your college?
I have always been a people person and love to be surrounded by young students. This natural trait of mine always helps me build a strong bond with my students. I try to always be available to my students and faculty members to answer any queries and listen to.
What are the most important functions in the role that you play in your institute?
All functions performed by a Dean or Director are important, as they directly or indirectly affect the lives of thousands of students. I don’t assign less importance to any task I do. As a Dean, I must ensure that the department provides the best learning opportunities to students for developing their academic skills, life skills, technical skills and corporate skills while keeping up with its core values: social responsibility, integrity, life-long learning, and resilience. Further, I must ensure that all my efforts are directed towards achieving the vision of the department: “To be a business school par excellence in nurturing life-long learners and creating socially responsible and resilient leaders with a problem-solving mindset”. Lastly, I have to ensure that all stakeholders, including students and faculty members, are taken care of well, are listened to and are responded to timely for any concern they may ever have.
