As the Head of the Commerce Department, what is your vision for the department and how do you plan to achieve it?

My vision for the Commerce Department of Pune Vidyarthi Griha's College of Science and Technology is to develop it as a centre of excellence in commerce education. I want the institute to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter and prepare them for successful Finance careers. To achieve this vision, I plan to increase collaboration with industry partners in the field of commerce, enhance the curriculum to align it with emerging trends, and provide cutting-edge technology and resources to support faculty research.

How do you ensure that the curriculum offered by the Commerce Department is relevant and aligned with industry requirements?

To ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and up-to-date, the Commerce Department regularly collaborates with industry partners to understand the industry’s requirements and needs. The Commerce Department also has several elective courses that focus on current and emerging industry trends and topics. To enhance the practical application of commerce education, the Commerce Department organizes regular industry visits, case studies, and simulated business scenarios for students, through which they learn how to use their knowledge and skills.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

We at Pune Vidyarthi Griha's College of Science and Technology provide faculty members with regular training and professional development opportunities. This equips them with the latest pedagogical tools and techniques required in the field of commerce. We also organize seminars and guest lectures where faculty/staff can learn and help in delivering this program to the students. PVGCST always helps faculties by meeting their requirements and helping them whenever needed by providing enough support, guidance, and infrastructure.

What steps do you take to promote student engagement and active learning in the Commerce Department?

We encourage student engagement through interactive classroom sessions where they can engage and get opportunities to share their views, participate in real-life problem-solving, and work on group projects. These help the students work together and coordinate with the team to get the work done. We also use case studies to help students understand current problems in commerce and how to solve them. The Commerce Department also provides regular extracurricular activities and guest lectures to inspire and motivate students.

Can you share a few career options available after graduating from B.Com and any achievements of students or alumni from the Commerce Department?

We give students a lot of guidance and support from our end and also provide facilities to facilitate their growth. Commerce students can choose between quite a few career options such as M.Com, MBA, CA, CFA, etc. We have many success stories and notable achievements of students and alumni from the Commerce Department, which help motivate students to be a part of Pune Vidyarthi Griha's College of Science and Technology. Several alumni have established successful businesses, taken on leadership roles in their respective organizations, and contributed to society in different ways.

What is your leadership philosophy when it comes to managing the Commerce Department? How do you motivate and inspire your faculty and staff?

My leadership philosophy is collaborative and inclusive. I believe in building a positive work environment, where faculty and staff feel valued and heard. I motivate faculty and staff from my department by setting challenging goals, providing regular feedback and appreciating efforts, and offering professional development opportunities, which also helps in the career growth of faculties.

Can you discuss any innovative teaching methods or practices you have implemented within the Commerce Department to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes?

At PVGCST’s Commerce Department, we have implemented several innovative teaching methods, such as flipped classrooms, experiential learning, and blended learning, to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. The goal is to attract students and engage them in the course material. Besides this, the commerce department is also well-equipped with updated technology, resources, and infrastructure to support effective teaching, learning, and research necessary in the field of commerce.

Can you describe a challenging situation or issue that you faced as the HOD of Commerce and how you successfully resolved it?

As the HOD of the Commerce Department, a challenging situation I faced was adapting to the shift to online learning during the pandemic. Initially, we faced some problems since there was a lack of infrastructure at a few faculty places, but we successfully overcame this challenge by providing faculty members with training in online teaching tools and techniques. We also made sure the students had access to necessary resources like laptops and internet connectivity.

My long-term vision for the Commerce Department is to make it a premier centre for commerce education and research in the region. Through the Commerce Department, I would like to provide the students with the knowledge in the field of commerce and the skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly globalized economy. I want to provide enough facilities to the students so that they can benefit from this course and help in the growth of the college.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

My advice to students is to focus on developing both hard and soft skills, which are a necessity to survive in this world. Always follow your passion, no matter which field you choose. I would also like to tell students to stay curious and adaptable, seek mentorship, and pursue opportunities to gain practical experience and exposure to real-world challenges. Because gaining practical experience and exposure to real-world challenges can help you solve problems easily and will also keep you ahead of others.
