Dr. Buddhadeo Mahato is the HOD (Maths Department) and Training and Placement Officer at the University College of Engineering and Technology, VBU Hazaribag. He has a total Experience of 13 Years and started his career in the field of teaching after doing M-Tech in 2011 at the College. He has completed his Ph.D. in Mathematical modeling and simulation of epidemic diseases.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept? which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd? 

At our college, we are equipped with Modern Computer Centre and Latest Scientific Software such as MATLAB, MATHEMATICA, MAPLE, MATHCAD, and SPSS. It has the following Lab Numerical Analysis and Programming Language (C++) & MATLAB. These well-equipped and modern facilities help the students to be in the race to the outer world, they get a Practical approach to Learning that helps the Students to apply their Concepts in the Practical World.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students? 

 The basic answer to this is to get yourself and the Faculties updated about the things that are trending now and in addition to this, we keep on attending Seminars, Workshops which are Conducted by different institutions whether it Be University, AICTE, or any other bodies. We keep on doing Research on the Aspects that we want our students to Know whether it be going through the Journals, Research Report we keep on working on this and make the Team of Faculties updated about the Changes or up gradation that is required for the Overall development of the students.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future? 

As you are aware there are Huge changes in the Technologies being adapted in this Modern Age. Machine Learning and AI are the 2 tools that are very much in demand for students in the future and as a Student, and if you want to Master Concept, Mathematics plays a very important role as there is a lot of Permutation And Combination that has to be implemented in Both Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with these types of Software Labs such as MATLAB, MATHEMATICA, Numerical Analysis, and Programming Language Lab we are enabling students to understand the Crux of Machine Learning and when these students will work on these things they will be able to make themselves prepared for the Future. 

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course? 

As you are aware the future of this Modern World is AI & ML we have seen many surgeries that are being done by robots that are just Possible Because of AI, In addition to this many Government projects are being carried out whether it be on Defense, Manufacturing Sectors and all other sectors. There is a huge opportunity for students they can pursue a Career in this field. Mathematics is that subject that is involved in each and everything that we do whether it be Commerce Field, Arts Field or it be Science field, you have to use Mathematics everywhere, and with the enablement of AI & ML it is very significant where people are working on Less Intervention of Manpower making the System more Automated, that’s why there are huge Career Options for the Students who are Pursuing this Course.

How do you approach decision-making in your role and how do you balance the needs of different stakeholders when making difficult decisions? 

As far as Our Department is concerned, we are totally Consultative while taking any decision, at this College we have got a free hand to work on different and new projects. I and My team are continuously working on different Projects which are beneficial for the Students and we always focus on group decision-making so that we can have brainstorming sessions before every decision, we can use the inputs provided by the team and improvise on the decisions which are beneficial for Students, College and the Companies who are coming here for the Placements.

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing higher education today, and how do you think your institution is addressing those challenges? 

In the Modern world, Higher education is facing a Major Challenge of Employability, Students tend to Mug up the Concepts and then get good Marks, but the Major Challenge is inculcating those learnings in their Practical Life, Students Nowadays must try to conceptualize the things so that they can further implement their Concepts in the Real Life Scenario. Even the Companies who are Coming to our Institute demand the same Practical Knowledge. At Our College, we are always trying to make the student Conceptual Clear as well as apply their Practical Knowledge to the real world. We are providing students with a lot of Case studies where they can work and apply those Concepts to the Real world.

What do you think is your College’s Strength? 

As you are aware that any institute runs smoothly with a Collaborative approach of all, directors, HOD, Faculty members, and Staff. Similarly, What I feel as the College’s Strength is its Complete team and Definitely the Students who are following these things religiously. Supporting Staff is also our College’s Strength whether it be the Admission Procedure, Accounts department, or Group D employees all are working towards College Development and they are the Strength of our College.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students? 

The Future is AI & ML in which Mathematics has a very important role to play. So, whenever a student wants to pursue their Career in this field it becomes very important that they Know how to apply these Concepts in real life rather than just focusing on how to get good marks.
