Chatra College, Chatra was established in the year 1961 in the name of Geeta Ashram Mahavidhyalaya and it was renamed with its present name in the year 1963. During this year, the college got approval from Ranchi University for intermediate courses under the arts stream of education and for the degree courses, it got approval from Ranchi University in the year 1965. After this, in the year 1970, the University Grants Commission has approved the college. After the separation of Vinoba Bhave University from Ranchi University, it was shifted under the Vinoba Bhave University. The mission of the college is to provide a challenging area of academic pursuits for teachers and students in all curricula. It is located off the Main Road in Chatra Town, around 65 Km from Hazaribagh and approx. 150 km from Ranchi.
