Mr. Shiv Kumar Yadav is the Head of the Department of the Food and Beverage Service Department at The Lalit Suri Hospitality School. He has 15 years of experience, of which five are in the industry and nine are in academia. Besides his present role at The Lalit Suri Hospitality School, he has also worked at The Hotel School, LBIIHM, and The Leela Kempinski Hotel and Residences.
Mr. Yadav holds a B.Sc. degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration from the Institute of Hotel Management, Meerut, and an MBA in Hospitality Management and Tourism from Manav Bharti University, Solan.

As HOD of The Lalit Suri Hospitality School, how does the program that you teach ensure that students are prepared for the challenges of the future?
The course at Lalit Suri Hospitality School provides sufficient and more employable knowledge and skills in the areas of kitchen and culinary skills like stocking and using ingredients, knowledge and managerial skills in housekeeping administration and procedures, and professional food and beverage service. They also learn banquet planning and execution, and a fair knowledge of accounting, all of which are supported by computer skills, and meet the needs of the industry. Students become well-versed in the industry through internships during the course of the programme.
How do you try to bring in practical approach towards subjects and how students get practical experience from studying the subject?
At The Lalit Suri Hospitality School, we encourage students to engage in educational activities. We make plans to take them on educational field trips and practically demonstrate concepts in class or outside of it. We try to keep classes unique and use innovative teaching tools available in the classroom. Give tasks and projects that are connected to the syllabus, play creative activities in the classroom, and give the pupils general guidelines and techniques for experiments.
How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?
We encourage our pupils to improve and advance daily by not comparing them to others but by placing a greater emphasis on their own personal growth. They can develop self-confidence and see their own potential by doing this. Keeping a watchful eye on one's personal growth and development can help an individual grow and gain success in life.
What do you see the college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?
The greatest strength of our college is its well-trained, research-oriented, experienced, dedicated, and energetic teaching faculty. We try to enhance this aspect by doing more research paper publications, networking, and taking part in faculty development programmes. Elevating this strength further could be achieved by actively fostering an environment that encourages and supports increased research paper publications.
What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?
My foremost advice to every student is to prioritise "learning" over "earning" in their pursuits. Engage in work opportunities not solely for monetary gains, but for the invaluable knowledge and skills they can offer. By adopting this mindset, you'll enrich your education, broaden your horizons, and pave the way for a more fulfilling and successful future. Remember, investing in learning today will yield greater dividends tomorrow.

What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?
Our students can grab several job opportunities after pursuing a hotel management degree. Some of these jobs are available in international and national chain hotels, airline catering (flight kitchen) and cabin services, club management, and cruise ships. Our past students also worked in quick-service restaurants, hospital administration and catering, hotel and tourism associations, hospitality services in the Indian Navy and other armed forces, forest lodges, and guest houses.
