Dr. Ghanshyam Shakar is the head of the Mining department at MATS University. He has done Ph.D. in Applied Geology from MATS University, Raipur in 2022. He is presently working as an Associate Professor & Head of the Mining Engineering Department in MATS, University Raipur from 13th June 2022. He has attended 4 workshops held at Central Ground Water Board, Raipur one week each on different topics. He has more than 10 years of experience in the field of teaching, research, and management in higher education. He has published more than 12 papers in national and international journals. Guided more than 12 M.Tech and 30 B.E thesis.
What is the latest program you are offering in your institute/department which will help the students to perform better and stand out from the crowd?
We are offering mining and ore education in the mining department. B.Tech in Mining Engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the nature, technology, research, and application of mineral resource production and processing. and also we are offering a diploma in mining course and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mining Engineering is a four-year full-time undergraduate program recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and offered by MATS University, Raipur.
What are the factors that make this program the best for students to choose?
B.Tech in Mining Engineering should cover various facets that need to be addressed when candidates study the mineral field and the mining methods that do not cause a discrepancy in the ecological cycle of the region. Mining Engineering also teaches and trains in surveying, planning, mapping, calculating costs, extracting minerals, processing metals, minerals, and other natural resources extracted from the earth. For the best of students, we are conducting industrial meets, inviting industrial experts, and providing regular intervention to students which helps them to survive and stay in the industry.

What would you call the "best practice" in the course you are offering?
Our best practice is the mentor-mentee system which means students can personally contact any of the faculty members to share their grievances. For the benefit of the student, we are conducting the counseling session for the students what problem the student is facing and we will make sure that we will help the student to solve their problem .
What type of projects are students working on through this program?
We are making a project like a man-riding system, which is helpful for miners to reach their working sections, actually their mining division, we have a man-riding system to walk and do their work. We are adopting some projects like the man-riding system and other projects which help miners and get more production from the mining industry some projects like underground mining design and planning, optimizing the design of the cargo and carrying systems in underground mining, and expansion of mineral treatment plant.
