Mr. Vikas Choudhary is the Assistant Professor of English at SS Jain Subodh PG College. He has an M.A. degree and is NET qualified. Currently, he is in the final stages of completing his PhD degree. Mr. Choudhary’s expertise in English literature makes him a valuable educator and mentor for students in the department.

Being a Faculty of the English Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the student?

Being a faculty member of the English Department, I emphasise the holistic development of the students. My goal is to guide and support them throughout their learning journey, ensuring they become well-rounded individuals with a bright future ahead. Besides teaching in the classes, I make sure to always be available to the students for guidance and mentorship.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

I always try to attentively listen to my students and give them guidance by relating to them. I also make sure to convey my views clearly, but not in a negative manner. I want to make sure the students become better learners and confident individuals, ready to face the world with all its challenges.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills? 

The English department’s major role or focus is always on communication skills. These skills contribute to enhancing and shaping students' personalities. Communication skills are also valuable in both our personal and future professional lives.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world? 

I always put stress on the basic concepts of English so that a student can easily understand the demands of society and the professional world. When they have a strong grasp of the fundamentals, they can better understand what society and the professional world expect from them. With that, they can go about inculcating these skills in them.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to the real-world challenges?

I have group discussions, movie screenings, role plays, recitations, and grammar quizzes for students’ better understanding. These activities not only make learning enjoyable but also improve their communication and critical thinking abilities. There are also university and college-level activities and competitions that students take part in every once in a while.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department? 

As a teacher of English and a native of Rajasthan, the native language is a major hurdle for students. They find it hard to learn and adopt English as their first language. Helping them adopt English as their first language requires extra effort and support. With the right guidance and patience, it becomes easy for them to overcome this challenge.

How does the curriculum of your department/college ensures the best practice of the industry? 

We have a balancing curriculum that tries to balance enhancing and polishing literature and language. This means students not only learn about great literary works but also develop strong communication abilities. We provide ample activities and opportunities for the students to explore both of these aspects.

How does the department/ college/University enhance the skills of the faculty and prepares them according to the industry standards? 

Our college frequently organises workshops, faculty development programs (FDP), seminars, conferences, and meetings with eminent personalities. This helps to boost and update our faculty on the latest trends and knowledge in the industry. These opportunities also help our faculty grow professionally and improve their teaching methods.

What do you see the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

Students are always the greatest asset for any academic institute. We always set limits in the best way to maintain and sustain our goodwill. By listening to our students' feedback and adapting to their needs, we can ensure their success and maintain a positive reputation in the academic community.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead? 

Students should always be clear and targeted towards a goal. They should then plan and move in a focused manner towards their dream field, stream, or job, but always stick to reality. With determination and a positive attitude, they can achieve their goals and have a bright future ahead of them.
