Dr. Monica Kharola is the Associate Dean of the School of Law at ICFAI University, Dehradun.She has completed her Law Practice at Delhi High Court and District Court, Dehradun. She is a distinguished scholar in the field of law with more than 20+ years of academic experience. Her areas of expertise are in the fieldof Family Law, Labour Laws, International Law and Human Rights.

You held key positions at various prestigious institutions throughout your career. What is that one thing that made you excited and walk with ICFAI Dehradun University on the journey?

ICFAI Society is a cohesive body having eleven Universities in various States of India. ICFAI University, Dehradun is part of this organization which works like a close-knit family. There is constant support and encouragement for employees and students to achieve their dreams. At every ICFAI University pan India, the faculty and staff is well aware of their roles and responsibilities. Our clear vision and mission is to make our work challenging yet joyful. We are proud of our Alumni who are steadfastly working on the motto of the University “MeritumEthicus”.

How do you balance the needs of faculty, students, and administration as an Associate Dean of a School of Law?

We foster open and transparent communication channels with faculty, students, and administration. We encourage feedback and actively listen to concerns and suggestions from all stakeholders. Our effort is to provide the best education, correct perception and appropriate application of knowledge. The University is working towards developing the students so that they can become successful professionals nationally and internationally while rooted in their culture. We all work together as a team to achieve the objective. 

As an Associate Dean of the School of Law, what is the USP or what are the differentiating factors that make ICFAI University, Dehradun stand out from other colleges?

Our overall focus is on the holistic development of the students. The vision of the University is to inculcate an approach through continuous and proactive endeavors, in acquiring domain knowledge, professional skills and a positive attitude. It believes in promoting a strong culture of creating of knowledge through higher learning and research amongst faculty members and students.

How do you stay current with the latest trends and developments in the field of Law and incorporate them into the curriculum and programs offered by ICFAI Dehradun University?

Regular Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), workshops and training sessions with experts ensure that faculties are updated with the latest trends and developments in the field of Law. There is a continuous effort to update the faculties and students with fast-changing laws like cyber security, artificial intelligence, IPR, etc. Amendments in law and Judicial Pronouncements of courts have to be updated so that students are aware of the latest developments. This helps us to achieve our mission i.e.,“The mission of the University is to offer world-class, innovative, career-oriented professional UG & PG programs and research through inclusive technology-aided pedagogies to equip students with the requisite professional and life skills as well as social sensitivity and high sense of ethics.”

How well ICFAI Dehradun University is focusing on maintaining industry relationships with companies and organizations in order to leverage them for live projects, training, and placements for the students?

We have a full-time trained Placement Manager with supporting staff and a team of screened student representatives who help in maintaining industry relationships with companies and law firms. They demonstrate their commitment to provide comprehensive career guidance and support to students. This setup ensures that students are well-prepared for the job market, they have access to valuable industry connections, and are matched with meaningful employment opportunities in their chosen fields.

What is something a law course aspirant can expect from joining ICFAI Dehradun University?

There is academic rigor and also a strong focus on practical learning.
