Saugat Barua has currently working as a Controller of Examination at CMJ University, Meghalaya for the last 7 years. He has completed his B.Com from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. After that, he pursued his MBA from The Department of Business Administration, at Gauhati University. Currently, he is a research scholar and pursuing a PhD from Gauhati University. He has a rich experience of over 10 years in the education industry and an overall experience of 17 years.
You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
I always wanted to be associated with the education sector because that is my genuine interest. I love spending time and interacting with my students and it is a two-way learning experience. Every single day I get to learn a new thing by interacting with my students.
Being the Controller of Examination what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
Leadership is to guide your students on the right path to support the students and solve their queries and problems. It also includes motivating the students to perform better in their studies and pass with flying colors. My leadership style would be democratic as I would invite constructive suggestions and active participation from my students.
Being the Controller of Examination, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?
The process of strategizing about the key programs would include performing my duties and responsibilities efficiently and giving valuable inputs for the development of my University. There has to be a robust marketing plan that would highlight the strengths and positive aspects of my University. Effective marketing would eventually ensure the overall progress and growth of the University. Regarding administration, we need to complement each other and make our job a smooth process.
Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
The suggestion that I wish to give to the current youth and aspiring students is that there is no substitute for hard work. You can conquer the toughest situation provided you put in that extra effort and sheer dint of hard work. This is because anybody can achieve success through dedication and sheer hard work.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?
To establish a healthy relationship and environment, the working atmosphere has to be positive and cordial. One should work in tandem and complement each other to achieve the goal of the University in the shortest possible time. This can be achieved through teamwork and every single person in the University needs to contribute in whatever way they can to the growth of the University.
What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institute and the students are?
As a Controller of Examination at the University, my primary role is to expedite the entire examination process and to declare the results as soon as possible. Also to maintain transparency in the whole examination process and to execute the whole process in a smooth manner as possible. As far as the students are concerned, should try to address the issues of the students and provide possible solutions.
What do you think should be the Institute's top priority over the next 10 years?
The topmost priority for the university over the next 10 years is to become an institute of educational excellence. That can happen when the prime motive of the institute is growth. We have to bring dynamism and work culture into the university and collectively work towards the overall development and growth of the organization.
When you first came to CMJ University, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?
My primary vision when I joined CMJ University was to contribute significantly to the best of my ability. I want to see the university scaling greater heights and contribute to society at large. I have been working in this university for the past 7 years and I feel that each year the university is growing and the working atmosphere in the university is ideal and good.
What do you see as CMJ University's greatest strengths?
The greatest strength of CMJ University I believe is its location. The university is located in the Meghalaya area which is very near to Assam. So, we get footfall of students from both states and the university is also very popular. It is one of the most sought-after universities for students especially from Assam and Meghalaya and also from all over India.
