What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?

As the HOD, my main responsibility is to guide the students in building successful careers by designing, and updating the course curriculum. I regularly review and update the course curriculum to align it with the latest industry advancements and technological developments. We, as a team, provide guidance and mentorship to our students on the various career paths available in electrical engineering. We advise and provide them with information about industry trends, internships, and job opportunities, helping them make informed decisions for a successful career.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

Our main target is to combine theoretical knowledge and practical training and ensure a balanced approach by providing both theoretical and practical knowledge to our students. After completing the fourth semester, we provide industrial training from industries like Jindal, HEC, and Bajaj Electricals for our students, which helps them get experience in the working culture and apply their skills in real-world scenarios. This industrial training, which lasts one month, is compulsory for all the students, and it is included in the course.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through the program?

In this department, we offer different types of projects to our students, like power generation in power plants, training on power transmission, and the distribution process of generated power. Other projects include the design and optimisation of power plant systems, load flow analysis, and the development of smart metering systems for efficient energy management. These projects help the students gain practical knowledge and allow them to apply the theoretical concepts they learn in class to real-world scenarios.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We generally give our students tasks to prepare small circuits and kits in the form of assignments. Our goal is to provide practical training, which is crucial for electrical engineering students, along with theoretical knowledge. So, we provide hands-on experience through workshops, industry collaborations, and internships that help students develop the necessary skills to excel in the market.

How did you train or prepare yourself/ faculty to deliver the program to the students?

By motivating the team members so that they can serve the students in the best way. To motivate the faculty members, we organise regular training sessions and workshops focused on enhancing teaching skills and knowledge. By ensuring open communication channels where faculty members could express their concerns and suggestions. Our teachers attend faculty development programs, workshops and conferences to remain connected with their industry.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

To build healthy relationships, I ensure open and effective communication, actively listen to their concerns and encourage collaboration through regular meetings and discussions. This university culture is very student-friendly; we follow a culture where junior students can address the senior students by calling sir/ ma’am, and they help junior students solve their problems. By doing so, we try to build a healthy relationship between the students and teachers.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
