What are some valuable insights of the course that the university is offering?

At this university, we offer two courses, BP.Ed. (Bachelor of Physical Education) and DP.Ed. (Diploma in Physical Education). The BP.Ed. and DP.Ed. courses are two years long and are divided into four semesters. The curriculum for both courses consists of 16 theory papers and 16 practical games and events. Students are required to complete both theory and practical papers as part of their coursework. The practical component of the course involves participating in various games and events, providing students with hands-on experience in physical education.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?

My primary responsibilities as the HOD include designing the course curriculum and timetable for the department and ensuring that both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject are covered systematically. Creating a friendly and conducive learning environment is crucial for the overall development of the students. Apart from that, I am responsible for managing and coordinating the faculty members within the department. This involves assigning teaching duties, conducting regular meetings to discuss departmental matters, and providing support and guidance to ensure the smooth functioning of the department.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

I believe that having an open communication channel and a friendly environment is crucial. Our trained faculty members are always ready to support and guide the students, ensuring a healthy and friendly relationship. Effective communication is a priority for us. We encourage students and faculty to engage in open dialogue, ensuring that everyone feels heard and understood. By building a culture of open communication, we aim to build strong relationships and create a supportive community within the department.

What are the types of projects that the students are working on through the program?

Students are given the freedom to choose their field of specialisation based on their interests, such as kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, basketball, or other games. We make sure that students acquire complete knowledge about their game field, including theories, practical aspects, rules, terms, and conditions. Students are required to complete their projects according to their chosen specialisation, focusing on their specific game field. For instance, a student specialising in badminton may be tasked with creating a comprehensive training program for beginners, including practice drills, fitness routines, and strategies specific to the sport. Apart from the specialisation part, we offer ten game events to ensure that every student becomes an all-rounder in various sports.

How did you train or prepare yourself/ faculty to deliver the program to the students?

We have divided the theoretical part of the programme among the faculties based on their specialisation, ensuring that each faculty member focuses on their area of expertise. Additionally, we incorporate practical sessions and activities to provide learning experiences for the students. We encourage open communication by organising regular interactive sessions, where students can freely discuss their concerns, seek guidance, and receive feedback from both faculty members and their peers. We believe in maintaining strong coordination among faculty members to ensure consistent delivery of the program. We conduct regular meetings where we discuss the major topics of the course, exchange ideas, and address any challenges or concerns. This helps us align our teaching methods and ensure that all faculty members are on the same track.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

I am very happy to share that at this university, more than 50 students are playing at the national level in various sports, and five students have even achieved international recognition and won medals. While the competition is undoubtedly high, we also offer numerous opportunities and provide guidance to our students on how to excel in sports. Alongside our dedicated faculty, we offer various programmes and initiatives to support our students in navigating the competitive sports environment. These include specialised training sessions, access to state-of-the-art facilities, participation in regional and national tournaments, and exposure to renowned coaches and athletes. We believe that by providing such opportunities, we empower our students to develop their skills and thrive amidst the high level of competition. We strongly believe that a healthy mind and body are essential for achieving success in sports. Therefore, we have implemented comprehensive health and wellness programs for our students. These programs focus on physical fitness, mental well-being, nutrition, and injury prevention. By prioritising their health, we ensure that our students are equipped to face the challenges of intense competition and perform at their best potential.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

First and foremost, it is crucial for students to set a clear target in their area of interest. Whether it is academics, sports, or any other field, having a specific goal in mind is essential. Once the target is set, it is important to give your best efforts towards achieving it. For physical education, it is vital for students to aim high and strive to become national and international players. Setting the target to reach the top and earn medals is a great way to enhance one's unique skills and abilities. Giving 100% dedication towards this goal is key to excelling in the field of physical education. Striking a balance between academics and physical education is of utmost importance. While excelling in sports is valuable, it is equally essential to prioritise academic achievements. Students must manage their time effectively, ensuring they allocate sufficient hours for both their studies and physical training.
