Dr. K. Rajeswar Dutt is the dean of academics at Sai Nath University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in B.Pharma and then completed his degree in M.Pharma. Further, he also holds a PHD degree.

What inspired you to pursue a career in higher education administration, and what drew you to your current role as a Dean?

As a Dean of Academics, my first and foremost objective would be to create an academic ambiance and excellence in the university, whether be the faculty or the department in which the various courses are running, we would like to ensure that the highest standards of the teaching-learning process, evaluation process and then to ensure that there is good attendance of students so that they not only get the theoretical knowledge but also imbibe the various practical skills. We would like to create an environment to create an overall personality development of the students and improve their communication skills so that in the near future after acquiring these professional degrees whatever being awarded from our esteemed Sai Nath University, we would like to see their future whether it is a personal life, or the professional life is of a very high quality.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your university?

The biggest challenge that we can see today is maybe some differences which are being inflamed by the political, the ethos that is going in the country or whatever but however as professional teachers, we would like to maintain a very nice harmony and goodwill with the students so that they should feel actually they are in a home, very far away from their home. So, they should have a very nice reputation with the teachers so that the teaching-learning process culminates in grand success.

What are your primary responsibilities as Dean and how do you balance them with other aspects of your job?

As a dean of academics, as I told you, my prime thing is to maintain the highest standards of quality. So, to maintain the quality we need a very strong cohesive faculty team and we are lucky that Sai Nath University has a very good dedicated theme of faculty members who give their best and put their best foot forward to see that they give the highest quality of education. Whether it be the theoretical knowledge or the practical skills, workshops, seminars, symposiums, conferences, research publications whatever facet we would like to see in this education is being delivered to the students so that they get to benefit from this process and tomorrow they can make a very good carrier for themselves and in-turn also strengthen the nation also.

How do you approach decision-making in your role and how do you balance the needs of different stakeholders when making difficult decisions?

So, here also we work with team spirit, of course, there is a hierarchy in any university. So, I know the responsibilities of the dean's academics are of paramount importance because quality is the core of education and to maintain that the dean's academics have to work not only hard but also very smart to see that the quality is being maintained. In that process, I will be directly reporting to the higher authorities like the most honorable Vice Chancellor Sir, and whenever there is a very difficult situation, there is a crisis or whatever, we sit together, we resolve by collective bargaining and decision making we resolve the issues and we see that there is no crisis and we come out successful and emerge successful in all our attempts whatever we want to deliver to our students.

What new initiatives and collaborations has the University established with Industry Leaders to promote industry-specific courses?

Actually, we have a very good training and placement that has a highly qualified experienced director and under his leadership, there is a very good team that is working. Through that training and placement cell, we create a Nexus between the university and the various organizations like manufacturing organizations or very quality imparting institutions, we create a framework for the students so that they get a springboard for success through these training sessions.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

What we like to say to the latest students is to be very diligent and serious. First and foremost attendance to the classes is being monitored very strictly and we keep the students highly motivated, we simply do not give chalk-and-talk lectures, we also give smart classroom lectures. We provide LCD projector classes and we make a teaching-learning process highly interesting and enthusiastic so that we keep the students motivated so that they come with lots of enthusiasm and interest and attend the classes not by compulsion but by motivation.
