What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?

As the Head of the department, I have various responsibilities towards the university, such as ensuring the timely completion and implementation of the semester-wise timetable and the distribution of timetables and syllabi to the faculty. Within the Agriculture Department, we offer various courses, including biotechnology, entomology, plant pathology, and more. Therefore, it is my duty to create timetables tailored to the specialized fields of our faculty members. Regarding the students, I am accountable for resolving any issues they may encounter during their classes, practicals, and throughout the course.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

In the Agriculture Department, we currently offer undergraduate (UG) programs and adhere to the norms set forth by the 5th Deans Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The syllabus is meticulously designed in accordance with the committee's regulations. While the UG program does not include specific projects, we provide Ravi and Experiential Learning Programs (ELP) during the 7th and 8th semesters to enrich the students' learning experience. We have established numerous connections and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), both interstate and intrastate, which serve as valuable resources for our students in gaining knowledge within the field of agriculture. Furthermore, we have collaborative agreements with several Agro-Industries, such as Medha, Sudha Dairy, Pan Seed, and Ramakrishna Mission, providing our students with opportunities to explore areas like Seed Technology. Recently, our students have actively participated in a program initiated by the government of Jharkhand, specifically for the MSME sector, and their achievements make us proud. Lastly, our department is also engaged in the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, through which we have adopted five villages. We send our students for practical training, during which they educate farmers in modern farming methods and raise awareness about the latest agricultural technologies and advancements.

How did you train or prepare yourself/ faculty to deliver the program to the students?

Having completed my Ph.D. in 2018, I dedicate my efforts to training both myself and my faculties, assisting them in staying updated with the latest developments and advancements in the field of agriculture. Additionally, we offer special classes to our students, preparing them for competitive exams. To facilitate this, we consistently engage in self-improvement by using resources such as Google and referring to new books authored by renowned experts. Regular participation in university-organized seminars is also a part of our routine, ensuring that our faculties are well-equipped to provide the best possible service to our students.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

To enhance our students' preparedness for competition, we offer special classes and recommend animated videos to expedite their learning process. For those interested in competitive exams, we provide tailored instruction, including language classes, objective questions, quiz competitions, and success stories to facilitate exam preparation. Our approach emphasizes practical teaching and motivational guidance toward future goals, particularly in the highly competitive field of agriculture. We actively suggest books and innovative ideas to support our students, while our university hosts numerous seminars, workshops, and conferences featuring industry leaders, fostering motivation for them to achieve their life goals.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

To foster strong relationships with our new students, we organize an orientation program that serves as an initial point of contact between teachers, faculties, HODs, Deans, and students. This orientation program creates a friendly atmosphere where students can freely share their thoughts. We provide comprehensive introductions to faculty members and strive to address any problems students might encounter by maintaining open communication. When students make mistakes, our approach is to educate and guide them in a friendly manner, with the ultimate aim of nurturing wise individuals capable of contributing to society's betterment.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

I would like to offer a suggestion to the current youth: I have observed that many students today misuse their time by engaging in excessive gaming and social media use. I encourage my students to refrain from wasting their time on online games and instead utilize their devices for personal growth and online learning. We should strive to make the best use of technology, avoid its negative aspects, and focus on using mobile devices for educational purposes. There are numerous online resources and tutorial packages available, allowing everyone to learn independently, without the immediate assistance of a teacher. This message underscores the importance of responsible and constructive technology use.
