Dr. G. RadhaKrishnan is the head of Civil Engineering Department at Sri Vasavi Engineering College, Tadepalligudem. He has pursued an AMIE in Civil Engineering from The Institution of Engineers (INDIA) and an M.E. in Foundation Engineering from Goa University, Goa. He has also pursued a PhD in Civil Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada. He have about 19 years of industry experience and 14 years of teaching experience. He has published in multiple journals and has attended different seminars and conferences.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
Started my journey as an Engineer and most of the time I worked in the planning and construction of different major Civil Engineering structures and at one stage to upskill myself with the current trends, entered the field of research to pursue PhD followed by sharing my knowledge to the budding engineers by associating with education sectors and obviously an an interest was developed. Finally teaching and research became my passion.
Being the HOD of Sri Vasavi Engineering College, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
I want my philosophy to act as a guiding principle upon which decisions, plans, processes, and actions can be built, developed, and applied. Maintaining the coordination among the faculty working in the department is mainly needed, then only the things that the department is striving towards quality education, research and consultancy, could be achieved easily. My style is to work jointly with the faculty to motivate and influence them to accomplish the required goals.
The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?
Comparison is not needed. The Indian education system in ancient times was truly world-class, which attracted scholars from all over the world to come in search of knowledge. The Indian education system is well structured and cannot be compared with others. But unfortunately, due to some external influences, it is deviating from its path.
Students studying in this institute could increase their knowledge-earning potential, employment prospects, job benefits and professional network. They can also learn about different careers, gain real-life skills, learn independently and become successful in the career of their choice.
How does the curriculum of Sri Vasavi Engineering College ensure the best practice of industry?
The institute is practising outcome-based education in which decisions about the curriculum, instruction and assessment are driven by the exit learning outcomes that the students should demonstrate at the end of a program or a course. As all programs have been designed in the outcome-based education framework, there is no doubt in saying that the institute is ensuring the best practices of the industry concerned.

What do you think should be the institute's top priority over the next 5 years?
The education system in the institute is going in an orderly fashion but the problem is arising with the influence of external disturbances on the student causing them to deviate from their scheduled path. Disturbances include having access to cell phones and their distractive effect, procrastination, studying for memorization for exams, negative attitude toward learning etc. Hoping that the institute environment will resolve the disturbances and that priority may be given to promoting professional ethics, health care and nationality.
What do you see as your institute's greatest strengths?
The institute’s greatest strength is its internal stakeholders i.e. student's strength and external stakeholders i.e. alumni, parent community and others. In addition, the flexible, versatile and curious management members are an added strength to the institute.
Also, the strength could be observable from the well-trained, research-oriented, experienced, dedicated and energetic teaching faculty, supportive non-teaching and laboratory staff, excellent and well-maintained infrastructure in the form of new buildings, good teaching and learning environment supported by a prolific library, smart classrooms and well-equipped laboratories, simple and transparent admission procedure, faculty with major and minor research projects, publications in research journals like Scopus, Web of Science and Research Fellowship, Excellent Student-Teacher rapport with emphasis on mentoring and counseling, excellent extra-curricular activities, sports culture, well-organized extension, community service programs and outreach activities by students and faculty, very good interface with industries, research and educational institutes.
What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?
I would like the people to know that it is the right place to work and the best learning environment to be associated with. For students, it is one of the best engineering institutions, where they can experience the blend of best practices of industry and academics. College has a distinguished leadership series, where it invites industry speakers, academicians and outstanding full-time and visiting faculty.
Any message you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
Budding minds should know the human body is a precious gift given by god and they need to make the optimum use of it. Youth need to enrich their levels of intelligence quotient with emotional and spiritual quotients. Information will only be dumped onto the students and they have to convert it into knowledge and skills. Students should know that one good skill could make them stand out from the rest of the crowd. Students have to develop their intelligence in the field of their interest which elevates their intelligence quotient. Intense hard work with planning has to become a habit and it is not only a human duty but human dignity as well. Students have to be flexible and related to the people around them. They should not react but respond. Those who manage others will be leaders. Youth have to be patient and stable and have to control their emotions which promote their emotional quotient. Spiritual intelligence creates a higher sense of purpose, self-awareness, resets the mental process, and modifies a person’s whole personality, it is sometimes referred to as a “supreme type of intellect. Developing these quotients make the students successful in their academic and professional endeavors.
