In what ways do you attempt to adopt an aspect of realism in subjects and introduce more and more industry-type ideas?
Yes, at Sri Krishna Engineering College, the teaching-learning process is designed practically by incorporating modules and projects that are more inclined towards the professional world. Through agreements, we work with major companies to jointly develop course materials that reproduce existing practices and tools. Facilities contained in the centers are well equipped, comprising labs, workshops, and live projects to make the students engage in practices. We also help guide our students into internships and co-op programs so that students can get the actual feel of real-life experiences. To achieve this, we invite guest speakers from industries and organize industry visits that assist the students in not only being informed but also being professionals who can apply solutions in practice.
Regarding the question of how you go about planning the curriculum, how frequently is it revised to be advantageous for the students?
The curriculum strategy in Sri Krishna Engineering College depends on relevance and excellence. The reviews are biannual, where we integrate a committee of university scholars, industry professionals, and our alumni. This committee evaluates the flow in the market and the needs of the industry to guarantee that our courses are relevant. We also take feedback from the students and employers to find out the deficit and the scope required. New elective courses and specialized courses as per the system of Anna University are added as per the requirement of technology. Such an arrangement signifies that our students get continuous input that prepares them for their professional careers.
What procedures recommended by the department have to be followed by the students to be equipped with the required skills?
Much the same way our department in Sri Krishna Engineering College employs the following solvers to enable the student to develop necessary skills: Operationalizing fun in learning, we encourage the use of group projects and peer mentoring. These research facilities for efficient and academic experiments and research are open for students to work with. We also provide programs for skills (hard and soft) training, including coding boot camps, leadership training, and other communication training. Both national and international competitions, like Smart India Hackathons, are conducted to imbibe the ethos of competition and develop practical problem-solving skills. Such impressions affirm the fact that programs, courses, departments, and colleges operate to make sure that our students are marketable.
What difficulties have you come across/are coming across in your endeavor to raise the standard of education in your department?
I agree because one of the most important problems that Sri Krishna Engineering College faces is the problem of updating the curriculum and learning-teaching approaches due to the fast rate of technological advancement. Moreover, there is the problem of the conflict of academic theories with practical experiences; thus, constant reinforcement with sophisticated equipment and research centers is called for. Searching for talented and skilled faculty who can teach from academic and practical knowledge is also a challenge. To counter these, we have strategic alliances with leading industries, the endowment of infrastructure and development, and the comprehensive faculty development program implemented. All these efforts assist in keeping up as well as enhancing the standard of learning even if the situation looks hard and repellent.
