Prof. P. Rama Murty Raju received his MSc (Engg.) degree in Engineering from University College of Engineering, Sambalpur University, Burla. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. His areas of interest are fatigue and fracture mechanics, characterization of materials, composites and finite element analysis. Currently he is serving as a Professor & Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at S.R.K.R. Engineering College (A), Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. He has teaching experience of more than thirty years to UG/PG students of Mechanical Engineering and he has published more than 60 research papers in various International/ National Journals and conferences to his credit. He has guided three Phds and currently he is guiding five Ph.D. scholars and handled research projects from AICTE.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Both Teaching and research are my interests. Since finishing my B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, I’ve been associated with the education sector. As an educator, I strive to enhance my skills and knowledge in effectively accessing, evaluating, and utilizing information resources related to Mechanical Engineering and delivering the same to students.

Being the HOD of SRKR Engineering College what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Since the Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest Departments in SRKR Engineering College, our faculty members and staff are the backbone of our Institute. I would describe my leadership style as democratic. I continuously try to empower the team, and make them participate in the decisions we make at Department level. I create a working environment in which everybody learns from each other, and the entire Department grows under such leadership.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

One of the very major points that many students agree upon is that abroad education has a lot more creativity and innovation in comparison to Indian education. The process of foreign education is more of a practical approach while Indian education’s is more theoretical. The way they deal and implement the concepts is far more impactful in making students understand the concepts and apply those in real-life situations. Outcome Based Education (OBE), Academic flexibility and Industry based curriculum might be some of the key parameters which an inbound student can gain from studying here.

How does the curriculum of SRKR Engineering College ensure the best practice of industry?

We constantly update our curriculum according to industry developments, we continuously research and take feedback from the industry experts on the changes in the industry which will be carefully reviewed by the Board of Studies and approved by an expert panel of the Academic Council. We adopt multiple approaches to teach our students through various pedagogical activities like performing practicals, field visits, experts’ lectures, presentations, project works and interactive class. With the advanced teaching methodology, students are exposed to maximum practical learning and our placement committee is very strong to build industry students interface. Also, our internships at the end of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year will be an added advantage to make the student Industry ready.
