Dr. Puneet Sharma has been working as the Dean of School of Science at IILM, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He has 18+ years of rich experience in teaching and research domain and he has successfully completed 5 government funded research projects worth Rs 1.30 crore. 

Apart from this, he has supervised several research projects, 4 PhD students, 8 doctoral thesis, 21 master thesis, and published more than 60 SCI journal Publications. As part of education, he has done Ph.D. from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala in 2004 and thereafter joined State University of Maringa, Brazil as a Postdoctoral fellow in 2005. After working there for some time, he joined the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University as a postdoctoral fellow and worked there for 2 years. 

He has 40+ research publications in reputed International journals. He is also a Life Member of professional institutions and associations like Magnetic Society of Taiwan, Magnetic Society of India and Materials Research Society of India. Dr. Puneet Sharma is also the proud recipient of CNPq Brazil fellowship and NSC Taiwan fellowship. His research interest areas are materials design and the study of processing, structure and magnetism in a wide range of magnetic materials which includes, hexaferrites, spinel ferrite, and magnetoelectric materials.

Being the Dean of School of Science, what do you consider as your core responsibility towards the institute and students?

IILM is a very old institution and being the Dean of School of Science, my prime role is to ensure that our students receive the requisite attention and resources needed for a successful academic transition into our institution and this task I would say involves a multifaceted approach to support their growth and adaptation to the academic and environmental nuances of IILM University.

Apart from this, I am responsible for overseeing the smooth execution of the First Year B.Tech Program and contributing to the development of a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses various subjects, including Applied Science, Basic Sciences and Engineering Sciences.

What is the main factor that keeps you connected to the education sector?

I developed an interest for research over time and it ultimately helped me to enhance my knowledge and understanding of various subjects. And after some time, I got attracted towards the dynamic, challenging yet noble field of education and became a mentor. Also, once I finished my PhD, I went to gain further exposure and stayed in Brazil for 1 year, and then I joined National Taiwan University. At last I returned back to my homeland and joined my alma mater Thapar University where I worked for 15 years as a Teacher. 

Hence I would say my interest and passion for the research and learning and networking opportunities education sector provides to us have helped me to stay connected with the world of academics.

In your opinion, what is the ultimate goal of IILM, Greater Noida?

The core philosophy of our educational institution is to ensure purposeful learning for students. And we want our students to understand the relevance of their education and how it prepares them for corporate and social work. 

And the kind of education and opportunities we provide to students is inclined with the same goal, and ultimately helps our students realize their full potential and apply their knowledge meaningfully in their careers.
