Mrs. R. Beaula Jasmine is a faculty member of Civil Engineering at the Agni College of Technology. She holds an M.E. degree in Structural Engineering and has two papers published in reputed journals. Mrs. Jasmine has over five years of experience in composite structures and seismic design.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
To enhance the technical skills of students, we offer AutoCAD software for design and STAAD PRO software for analysis of building models. These training programs help them gain real-time exposure in industries for detailing structures. This program set them up to assess not only their learning but also their practical knowledge in analysis. This advanced learning method ensures the latest trends in the Civil Engineering field, which helps students crack interviews and intra-college competitions with priority.
What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?
In the current scenario, all the construction industries in the world are looking at using the latest technologies. So, we made it a point to inculcate the latest technology-based training in the curriculum to fulfil industrial needs. It enhances the student's technical software skills and makes them competent designers in the competitive world. The students can be groomed well by implementing industry-based practical knowledge. These training classes will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd.
What will you say the “best practices” in the course you’re offering?
We offer our students practical learning with hands-on training by conducting workshops, seminars and webinars with industrial experts, which makes them outstanding. This software training will help the students get better placement opportunities in this competitive world. We are also providing individual training certificates for the students based on the software training, which will cement their learning. This training will also improve their practical-based theory learning.
What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?
Industry based software training programs are conducted for the students to outperform with hands-on training. We have an interaction program with industrial experts that helps them know the latest tools and various techniques used in the construction industry. The overall objective of this software training program is to make the students aware of the latest trends in industrial needs. This training will help them to improve their self-confidence, self-motivation and self-interest in the upcoming challenges during the placements.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
Various training programs and soft skill training are offered to the students during their four-year course duration. These programs help the students develop their software technical skills and give them more potential to survive in today’s competitive job market. This software training program also provides employability and entrepreneurship and also helps the students pursue their higher studies. This training will also improve their industrial practical based theory learning.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?
To train ourselves, we are updating our knowledge and software training skills by interacting with industrial experts. Our faculty members have taken various faculty development programs, seminars, webinars and workshops, both online and offline, to learn about the latest and best software training. Even some of the faculty members had completed the software course from the reputed certified institutions. Faculty internal interactive sessions are also be conducted for the better delivery of software training.
How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?
Industrial connect programs like industrial visits, internships and guest lectures are well planned for the students at the beginning of the semester. At the end of every program, we insist that students prepare a report on the overview of the program. In civil engineering, the software training program will help to design and analyse the structures. AutoCAD is often used to create blueprints and floor plans for houses and commercial buildings and STAAD PRO is used to analyse various structural components.
What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?
Having a time management system is perhaps the most difficult challenge for students to overcome because it depends entirely on self-interest. Students need to be serious about their education, learn how to manage their time, set their daily schedule, and study despite constant distractions. Students may not have access to the resources they need to log in and complete remote learning. If they're practicing from home, they may be on an older operating system than our department computers, or they may have low-bandwidth internet with spotty connections.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
We have numerous Civil Engineering projects that our students are working on through our software training program. Some of these projects are a geographic information system based on AutoCAD software, structural and foundation analysis using the STAAD pro software, tall building design using AutoCAD software and STAAD pro software, and seismic design using the STAAD pro software. Moreover, some of our students are also working on foundation design based on AutoCAD software, building information modelling using AutoCAD 3D software and drafting infrastructure designs using AutoCAD software.
What are the benefits and career options after pursuing this course?
This software training program helps the students perform their tasks more efficiently and accurately. This computer-based training can analyse designs and make changes to them before construction. Our college placement and training cell especially trains and motivates interested students to become employable and also software proficient students to become entrepreneurs. This training program helps the students fill the gap between the curriculum and industrial-based work.
