What is the WBJEE 2025 Merit List?
The WBJEE 2025 Merit List is prepared separately for Engineering/Architecture called GMR and for Pharmacy which is called PMR.
General Merit Rank List (GMR)
- GMR is the main rank list used for admission in the Engineering and Architecture courses in colleges across West Bengal.
- It includes candidates who appeared in Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics + Chemistry) of the WBJEE 2025 exam.
- The total score calculated is out 200 to calculate the candidate’s WBJEE 2025 rank.
Pharmacy Merit Rank List (PMR)
- PMR is the primary rank used for admissions in the Pharmacy courses across universities in West Bengal.
- PMR only includes candidates who appeared in Paper 2 (Physics + Chemistry) of the WBJEE 2025 exam. The total score is out of 100 to calculate the rank.
What is the WBJEE 2025 Tie Breaking Criteria?
In the WBJEE 2025 exam, if two or more candidates gat the same score, the tie breaking criteria is applied to determine who will be first in the merit list.
According to the tie breaking criteria:
- The candidates with fewer negative marks in the individual subjects (Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics) are placed higher in the WBJEE 2025 Merit List.
- If this criteria doesn’t work then the age of the candidate’s is taken into consideration. Older candidates will be ranked higher.
The detailed Tie Breaking Criteria is as follows:
Tie-Breaking Basis | Description |
---|---|
Higher Marks in Mathematics | The candidate who scores higher in the Mathematics paper will be given a better rank. |
Higher Marks in Physics | If the tie remains, the candidate with higher marks in the Physics paper will be ranked higher. |
Higher Total in 2-Mark Questions (Maths + Physics) | If still tied, the candidate with a higher total score in only the 2-mark questions of Mathematics and Physics will be preferred. |
Fewer Negative Marks in 2-Mark Questions (All Subjects) | Candidate with fewer total negative marks in 2-mark questions across all subjects will be ranked higher. |
Fewer Negative Marks in All Questions | If the tie persists, the candidate with the least number of wrong answers across all questions will be preferred. |
Older Candidate (By Date of Birth) | As a last resort, the older candidate (by date of birth) will be awarded the higher rank. |
How is the WBJEE 2025 rank calculated?
The WBJEE rank is based on the candidate’s performance in the WBJEE 2025 exam. It includes the raw marks in both Paper I (Mathematics) and Paper II (Physics and Chemistry).
There are two types of rank in the WBJEE 2025 exam:
Rank Type | Description |
---|---|
GMR (General Merit Rank) | Based on total marks in Paper 1 (Maths) + Paper 2 (Physics + Chemistry) |
PMR (Pharmacy Merit Rank) | Based on only Paper 2 (Physics + Chemistry) for Pharmacy (except JU) |
WBJEE 2025 GMR Evaluation
To evaluate the General Merit Rank, the raw scores need to be calculated first. Raw marks are the sum total of Paper I and Paper II.
Mathematics scores (out of 100) + Physics + Chemistry scores (out of 100).
Once the scores are calculated, the candidates are sorted in a descending order based on their total scores. If two or more candidates score the same, tie breaking criteria is applied. The final sorted list becomes the WBJEE General Merit List.
WBJEE 2025 PMR Calculation
PMR is used for admission in the Pharmacy courses except for Jadavpur University which uses GMR even for Pharmacy program admissions.
It includes raw scores of Paper 2 (Physics + Chemistry)
Physics marks (out of 50) + Chemistry marks (out of 50)
Example:
Physics total marks = 40
Chemistry total marks = 45
Total Paper 2 score = 40 + 45
Total Paper 2 scores = 85 marks
Candidate’s PMR will be based on 85 marks
How is the WBJEE 2025 score calculated?
The WBJEE 2025 raw scores are calculated using the following formula:
For each paper:
Correct Answer = +1 (mathematics) and +2 (Physics and Chemistry)
Incorrect Answers = -0.25 (Mathematics) and -0.5 (Physics and Chemistry)
For Example:
Your total correct answers were 60 and incorrect answers were 5.
Then,
Raw Score = (60) - (5 x 0.25)
Raw Score = 58.75
Your Mathematics score is 58.75 out of 75.
