The WBJEE Merit List 2026 will be released by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) on the official website, wbjeeb.nic.in, along with the declaration of the WBJEE 2026 result.

  • Based on previous year trends, the merit list is expected in July–August 2026.
  • The merit list will contain the General Merit Rank (GMR) for engineering, technology, and architecture courses, or the Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) for pharmacy courses.
  • Students must download their rank card as it is a mandatory document for WBJEE 2026 counselling and seat allotment.
  • GMR is the only valid rank list used for seat allocation and counselling across all rounds.
  • Your category rank appears on the rank card alongside your GMR, but counselling uses GMR only.
  • The application number and password are required to download the WBJEE merit list 2026.

Students whose names do not appear on the merit list are not eligible for WBJEE 2026 counselling.

What is WBJEE Merit List 2026?

The merit list determines eligibility for WBJEE 2026 counselling and admission to engineering, technology, architecture, and pharmacy courses in government and private colleges across West Bengal.

WBJEE prepares two distinct merit lists:

  • General Merit Rank (GMR): Prepared based on total marks scored in Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) combined, out of 200. GMR is applicable for admission to engineering, technology, and architecture courses, including at Jadavpur University.
  • Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR): Prepared based on marks scored in Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) only, out of 100. PMR is applicable for pharmacy courses in colleges across West Bengal.

Category claims are verified during counselling at the respective college. If a student's category claim is found invalid, their reserved category rank will be cancelled, and they will be treated as a General category student.

Ques. Is the WBJEE merit list the same as the rank card?

Ques. How is the WBJEE 2026 merit list prepared?

Ans. The WBJEE 2026 merit list is prepared in descending order of total marks scored. In case of a tie, WBJEEB applies its tie-breaking policy based on negative marks, positive marks in specific subjects, date of birth, and application number — in that order of priority.

WBJEE Merit List vs Result: Key Differences

Many students use the terms "WBJEE result" and "WBJEE merit list" interchangeably. However, there are important distinctions between the two:

What it is Official announcement of scores and ranks Rank-ordered list of qualified students
Form of release Rank card downloadable via login Embedded in the rank card; no separate public list
Contains Subject-wise marks, total score, GMR/PMR, qualifying status Names, ranks, category ranks of all qualified students

Release timing Released by WBJEEB after the final answer key Released simultaneously with the result
Used for Understanding your score Counselling, seat allotment, and admission

Ques. What is PMR in WBJEE 2026?

Ans. PMR stands for Pharmacy Merit Rank. It is prepared based on marks in Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) only, out of 100, and is used for pharmacy course admissions.

WBJEE Tie-Breaking Rules for Merit List 2026

In cases where two or more students obtain the same total marks, WBJEEB applies a multi-step tie-breaking policy to assign unique ranks.

  • Tie-breaking rules are different for GMR (General Merit Rank) and PMR (Pharmacy Merit Rank).

Tie-Breaking Rules for GMR (Engineering / Architecture)

The following criteria are applied in the given order of priority until the tie is resolved:

Priority Tie-Breaking Criterion
1 Student with fewer negative marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry combined gets a higher rank
2 Student with more positive marks in Mathematics and Physics combined gets a higher rank
3 Student with more positive marks in Mathematics and Chemistry combined gets a higher rank
4 Student with fewer negative marks in Mathematics and Physics combined gets a higher rank
5 Student with fewer negative marks in Mathematics and Chemistry combined gets a higher rank
6 Student with more positive marks in Mathematics for 2-mark questions gets a higher rank
7 Student with more positive marks in Physics for 2-mark questions gets a higher rank
8 Student with more positive marks in Chemistry for 2-mark questions gets a higher rank
9 Older student (earlier date of birth) gets a higher rank
10 Student with a lower application number (applied earlier) gets a higher rank
WBJEE Tie-Breaking Rules for Merit List 2026

Tie-Breaking Rules for PMR (Pharmacy)

For PMR, the tie-breaking criteria follow a similar approach using only Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry) scores:

Priority Tie-Breaking Criterion
1 Student with fewer negative marks in Physics and Chemistry combined gets a higher rank
2 Student with more positive marks in Physics for 2-mark questions gets a higher rank
3 Student with more positive marks in Chemistry for 2-mark questions gets a higher rank
4 Older student (earlier date of birth) gets a higher rank
5 Student with a lower application number (applied earlier) gets a higher rank
Tie-Breaking Rules for PMR (Pharmacy)

If the tie remains after all subject-based criteria, the older student is given the higher rank. In the final step, the student with the lower application number gets preference.
