Class 7 Science Chapter 7 Weather, Climate, and Adaptations of Animals to Climate: Important Topics

The condition of a place or atmosphere on a daily basis is referred to as weather. Cloudy, sunny, rainy, stormy, or clear weather are all possibilities. It is a natural occurrence that keeps the atmosphere in a state of equilibrium. The climate, in a contrast to the weather, is the long-term state of a particular location. It refers to a location's average weather over a long period of time.

  • Weather

The weather is defined as the way the atmosphere is behaving, mainly with respect to its effects on life and human activities. It is the daily conditions of the atmosphere in terms of temperature, precipitation, cloudiness, humidity, brightness, visibility, wind, and atmospheric pressure.

  • Climate

Climate is defined as the long-term weather pattern in an area, typically averaged over 30 years. More particularly, it is the mean and variability of meteorological variables over a time spanning from months to millions of years.

  • Climate and Adaptation

Adaptation can be reactive, which can occur in response to climate impacts, or anticipatory, and before impacts of climate change are observed. In most circumstances, anticipatory adaptations will result in lower long-term costs and be more effective than reactive adaptations.
