Class 7 Science Chapter 13 Motion and Time – Key Points

Motion is a change in the position of an object with respect to time. If the position of a body is not changing with respect to time, the body is said to be at rest, motionless, immobile, or stationary. Any moving body is said to be in motion.

  • Speed is defined as the rate of change of position of an object with time.
  • The average speed of an object in an interval of time is the distance traveled by the object divided by the duration of the interval.
  • Therefore, the unit of distance is a meter or Kilometer and that of time is a second or hour.
  • Measurement of Speed: The formula for speed is speed = distance/time

s = d/t

where,

  • s is the speed in m.s-1
  • d is the distance traveled in m
  • t is the time taken in s
  • To measure time is basically to measure the length of time
