Class 7 Science Chapter 13 Motion and Time – Key Points

Motion is a change in the position of an object with respect to time. If the position of a body is not changing with respect to time, the body is said to be at rest, motionless, immobile, or stationary. Any moving body is said to be in motion.

Speed is defined as the rate of change of position of an object with time.
The average speed of an object in an interval of time is the distance traveled by the object divided by the duration of the interval.
Therefore, the unit of distance is a meter or Kilometer and that of time is a second or hour.
Measurement of Speed: The formula for speed is speed = distance/time.

s = d/t

where,

s is the speed in m.s^-1
d is the distance traveled in m
t is the time taken in s

To measure time is basically to measure the length of time.
