BSc Home Science Admission Process

Admission to B Sc Home Science is purely based on the merit-based admission procedures. Candidates willing to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Home Science must qualify the minimum eligibility criteria as drawn by the respective college or university. There is no entrance test and the whole merit lists are prepared solely on the basis of the numbers scored by the candidates who have submitted applications. The merit lists are prepared on the basis of cut-off marks calculated by the college or university, each year. However, the cut-offs are subject to change for different colleges depending upon the norms and regulations of that particular college.

The admission method is both online and offline. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic conditions, the entire admission procedure is conducted online with no provision of offline form collection.

  • Merit-based admission:

Follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for Merit-Based Admission

  • Visit the official website of the college of your choice and go to the link provided for admission to B.Sc. in Home Science.
  • Before starting, make sure to collect all the necessary testimonials like scanned copies of mark sheets, certificates, photo, ID proof, digital signature, in support of your minimum eligibility criteria.

  • Upon successful submission take out the registration sheet and submit the application and retain these for future references.
  • Colleges now will shortlist, consider, and prepare merit lists of candidates, as per the norms of that college.
  • After the publication of the merit list, students are counseled for verification. Aspirants can deposit the fees to get admitted to that college.

How to Get Admission in a Good College?

  • B. Sc. in Home Science is taught in different colleges across India. You need to jot down your preferred colleges in a list format.
  • If you wish to change your location based on your college, you need to take a thorough follow-up about the dates. Missing any dates will hamper the whole location shifting process.
  • Start preparing one year in advance.
  • Note down all the important dates and deadlines.
  • Always check if the format or admission procedure has been changed or altered.
  • Check previous years' cut-offs and understand your position.
  • At the time of registration, it is advisable not to depend on one college fully.
  • Many colleges run spot admission the day they publish a merit list so you must be prepared to sit for a final counseling and fee submission procedure.
  • Do not miss the date for the merit list publication. In case of several lists being published on the same day, try to follow up on the website.
  • Always carry all the testimonials, IDs, photos while visiting the colleges with ample photocopies in hand. In light of Covid-19, the whole admission procedure has been shifted online. In that case, keep all the scanned copies of your supporting documents ready.
  • In this era of competition, securing the first place you get to a college is a safe practice rather than waiting for the colleges you prefer more. This is why you must carefully shortlist the preferred colleges before-hand so that you can willfully take admission to any college that comes up with publishing the list first.

Faculty

I am in biological science department which have no specific faculty of it. Faculty from other department used to teach us. For me it's a thing good as we get chance to interact with some more teachers and get opportunity to get their respective experience and knowledge. But I think some of biochemistry faculty need to be improved some of the teachers have great ego and arrogance which I think should not there if your are a teacher. Otherwise most of the faculty was very good.

Course Curriculum Overview

I think my course was very best for those who have not decided their future plans. They want to explore more field of science not restricted to a particular field (as like me). It includes biochemistry, botany, zoology and physics chemistrynot (not so much). So it gives you number of opportunity to persued different field as your career in future.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose the course of Life Science since I was always interested in studying Biology and since after 12 I did not have a very clear idea about each sub-discipline of biology hence I didn't want to choose to do BSc in any particular discipline of biology. This course is very well-balanced and packed. For those who have a goal or interest in R&D and research-oriented life in biology, this course is a golden opportunity. The student-faculty ratio is moderate. Initially, it might seem a bit high but since many students leave for getting into medical college or somewhere else, the ratio lowers and it's pretty okay. The faculty of Life Science dept. is highly qualified and experienced in their own particular sub-disciplines. All our professors have done their Ph.D. from great universities in our country and outside (US, Korea, Japan, etc.) Their teaching method is very research-oriented and proper guidance is provided by our professors at every step of our course. Exams involve mid sem & endsem per sem

Campus Life

There are several fests that occur throughout the year(including the biggest fest Milieu and followed by Ispat, Icon, etc.) There are 2 library buildings (Science Library and Central Library). The libraries are very well equipped with books and journals and are quite spacious for spending time studying or any other academic work. Our lecture theatres are huge and are very well equipped with projectors and huge whiteboards. Some of our lecture theatres have Smart Board too. There are several sports which take place in our huge ground. Several indoor sports like chess, table tennis, etc are also available. Societies include debate, quizzes, and drama. All of our clubs or societies are run by students since these activities are controlled by the student union.

Course Curriculum Overview

I wanted to pursue research, and the past few years with peak COVID made me interested in Microbiology. The student: faculty ratio is roughly 1:20. There are near about 60 seats in total in the Biological Sciences department. Out of this, based on merit, the students are dived equally into 3 hons subjects - Zoology, Botany and Microbiology. The classes are not chaotic at all and are easy to manage. The faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences are all excellent. Needless to say, all of them have a PhD in their respective fields and every interaction with them would teach you a lot of things about the subject. In UG courses, for the first 2-3 semesters at least, most classes are taken by research scholars of the university, who are very frank and friendly with the students. They treat you like their juniors in all essence. Most of them rely on teaching the classes via PPT slides combined with using green board as and when required.

Campus Life

The library is good and huge with lots of books on each subject. It is a well-maintained multiple-storey building, of which currently two storeys are functionally available. There is a separate sitting arena with wifi availability. The latest magazines and newspapers are available in the library as well. Centralised Air-conditioned facilities will soon be functional in the library. Because of COVID, fests are not conducted in the university to avoid crowded gatherings. There are inter-departmental sports competitions held annually. The classrooms are spacious and well ventilated, huge enough to accommodate 70 students at a time at least. Practical labs are fully functional and you'll work with different devices in the labs.

Admission

There is an exam called PUBDET every year in July. That is basically the admission process for undergraduate students. And for post graduate students similar exam PUMDET is conducted by the West Bengal Joint entrance examination board. Life sciences is basically one of the pioneers of the future sciences. Where others busy in studying only one field like botany or zoology or physiology, we get to study everything related to biology so definitely one should go for this stream

Course Curriculum Overview

The whole course is made in such a way that you never feel pressurised as well as Making your brain ready for the entrance and future research. The course structure is well maintained and well divided throughout the semesters. For Post graduate they have a year long dissertation program in which we have to work under some faculty's lab, which gives us a lab exposure before going to PhDs. Labs are sometimes hectic and sometimes okay depending on the situation.

Ques. Which of these is better in IIT Kanpur: BSC in Chemistry/Physics, Earth Science, Biological Science or Engineering?

● Top Answer By Vidhita Kapoor on 24 Apr 23

Ans. It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference. First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available. If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go. Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.Read more

Ques. How can I take a BSc in biology from IGNOU?

● Top Answer By Kavya on 28 Oct 22

Ans. You can apply for the Bachelor's Degree Programme (BDP) at IGNOU which includes the BSc programme. One such course is LSE or Life Science. You need to select elective courses in Life Science first. IGNOU has a credit-based grading system. This requires you to complete 32 credits in a single academic year. This totals 96 credits in 3 years. For the first year 16 credits will be from foundation courses. Other credits will be from your elective courses. For a major degree you need to have 48 credits from the subject you wish to major in. In the 3rd year it’s decided whether you have a BSc (zoo) or BSc (bot). This depends on the choice of your subjects. BSc in Biology also required lab courses. These constitute about 25% of your marks and attendance is compulsory. Take a second elective from the rest (maths, physics, chemistry) such that it carries at least 8 credits. If you are still having difficulty understanding the credits visit the university’s official website.Read more
