B Pharmacy 4th Year Syllabus

The fourth year of B Pharmacy is divided into two semesters, namely, the seventh and eighth semesters. Each semester is four to six months long. Different subjects are taught in both semesters. The syllabus of 4th year B Pharmacy is listed below.

B Pharmacy 4th Year Subjects

In the seventh semester, there are four subjects. These subjects are Instrumental Methods of Analysis, Pharmacy Practice, Industrial Pharmacy, and Novel Drug Delivery Systems.

In the eighth semester, there are eleven subjects. These subjects are Biostatistics and Research Methodology, Social and Preventive Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Marketing, Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science, Pharmacovigilance, Quality Control and Standardization of Herbals, Computer Aided Drug Design, Cell and Molecular Biology, Cosmetic Science, Experimental Pharmacology, and Advanced Instrumentation.

Seventh Semester Subjects

• Instrumental Methods of Analysis: This subject focuses on the application of instrumental methods in qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs. The topics covered are UV Visible spectroscopy, Fluorimetry, IR spectroscopy, Flame Photometry, Atomic absorption spectroscopy, Nepheloturbidometry, Introduction to Chromatography, and Ion exchange chromatography.
• Industrial Pharmacy: This subject focuses on pharmaceutical product development and translation from laboratory to mark. The topics covered are Pilot plant scale-up techniques, Technology development and transfer, Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory requirements for drug approval, Quality management systems, and Indian Regulatory Requirements.
• Pharmacy Practice: This subject focuses on pharmacy practice in India. The topics covered are Hospital and its organization, Hospital pharmacy, and its organization, Adverse drug reaction, Community Pharmacy, Drug distribution system in a hospital, Hospital formulary, Therapeutic drug monitoring, Medication adherence, Patient medication history interview, Pharmacy, and therapeutic committee, etc.
• Novel Drug Delivery System: The topics covered in this subject are Controlled drug delivery systems, Polymers, Microencapsulation, Mucosal Drug Delivery systems, Implantable Drug Delivery Systems, Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems, gastroretentive drug delivery systems, Nasopulmonary drug delivery systems, Targeted drug Delivery, Ocular Drug Delivery Systems, and Intrauterine Drug Delivery Systems.

Eighth Semester Subjects

• Biostatistics and Research Methodology: This subject focuses on applications of Biostatics in Pharmacy. The topics covered are Measures of central tendency, Measures of dispersion, Correlation, Regression, Probability, Parametric test, Non Parametric tests, Regression modeling, Introduction to Practical components of Industrial and Clinical Trials Problems, and Response Surface methodology.
• Social and Preventive Pharmacy: This subject focuses on a number of health issues and their challenges. The topics covered are the Concept of health and disease, Social and health education, Sociology and health, Preventive medicine, National health programs, their objectives, functioning and outcome the following, and Community services in rural, urban, and school health.
• Pharmaceutical Marketing: This subject covers Marketing, the Pharmaceutical market, Product decision, Promotion, Pharmaceutical marketing channels, Professional sales representatives (PSR), Emerging concepts in marketing, and Pricing.
• Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science: The topics covered are New Drug Discovery and Development, Regulatory Approval Processes, Regulatory authorities, and agents, Registration of Indian drug products in overseas markets, Clinical trials, and Regulatory Concepts.
• Pharmacovigilance: This subject focuses on the development of pharmacovigilance as a science. The topics covered are Introduction to Pharmacovigilance, Introduction to adverse drug reactions, Basic terminologies used in Pharmacovigilance, Drug and disease classification, Drug and disease classification, Drug Dictionaries and Coding in Pharmacovigilance, Vaccine safety surveillance, etc.
• Quality Control and Standardization of Herbals: This subject focuses on various methods and guidelines for the evaluation and standardization of herbs and herbal drugs. The topics covered are Basic tests for drugs, Quality assurance in the herbal drug industry, EU and ICH guidelines for quality control of herbal drugs, Stability testing of herbal medicines, and Regulatory requirements for herbal medicines.
• Computer-Aided Drug Design: This subject focuses on the rational drug design process and various techniques used in the rational drug design process. The topics covered are Introduction to Drug Discovery and Development, Lead Discovery and Analog Based Drug Design, Analog Based Drug Design, Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship, Molecular Modeling, and virtual screening techniques, Informatics & Methods in drug design, and Molecular Modeling.
• Cell and Molecular Biology: The topics covered in this subject are Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemical Foundations, DNA and the Flow of Molecular Information, Proteins, Science of Genetics, Cell Signals, Protein-Kinases, etc.
• Cosmetic Science: This subject covers Cosmetic excipients, Principles of formulation and building blocks of skin care products, Antiperspants & deodorants, Principles of formulation and building blocks of Hair care products, Role of herbs in cosmetics, Analytical cosmetics, Principles of Cosmetic Evaluation, and Cosmetic problems associated with Hair and scalp.
• Experimental Pharmacology: The topics covered are Laboratory Animals, Preclinical screening models, and Research Methodology Bio-statistics.
• Advanced Instrumentation: The topics covered are Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Thermal Methods of Analysis, X-Ray Diffraction Methods, Calibration and validation, Radio immune assay, Extraction techniques, and Hyphenated techniques.
