Secrets of IISERs

Likes

Hostels are one of the best among all iisers.
Lab facilities are very good in all subjects.

Dislikes

Campus is still under construction though most the the things are done.
Mess management is bad and doesn't seem to improve at all.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In this course students have to learn all the subjects for first two years. Hence they are open to all type of opportunities in future. Apart from pure sciences there are courses like computer data science and earth sciences. However the course is not industry oriented rather it is more research oriented.

Likes

I liked the Hostel Facilities. We have been alloted single rooms even during our BS MS period.
Professor are really helpful and guide us throughout our academic journey.

Dislikes

Mess food quality degraded after some time.
Library should have more books so that more students should avail the facilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is good but at the moment I feel like it should be revised. The order in which courses are being offered should be changed and more electives should be added for more choice. Pre major system should also be included, if possible.

Course Curriculum Overview:

BS MS is a integrated course that will be a 5 years course programme. Most of the students are science enthusiast so the course are elected from that pov. Courses are good but it can be better for future improvement.

Is IISER Berhampur a good choice?

Likes

Fun campus life with beach side view and good hostels
Faculty are highly helpful and passionate about science

Dislikes

Underconstruction campus resulting in suboptimal conditions
Having to travel between transit and permanent campus

Placement Experience:

Placements are offered but majority of students opt for higher studies hence not much is focused on campus placements. Personally my plan is to go for a PhD abroad after completing the degree and most students here come with the mindset to pursue research.

A brief review of IISER

Likes

The vision of IISER BPR is fantastic and it really helps develop scientific thinking.
The laboratories are fantastic and teaches a lot of practical skills

Dislikes

The campus is under construction so there are a lot of facilities that are yet to be completed.
The quality of food is mess is sometimes horrible.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is designed in a way to encourage scientific thinking and well rounded knowledge in all aspect of basic science. The faculty are some of the finest in the country, with a lot of experience and expertise. The exam were conducted timely and the difficulty was moderate.

IISER BERHAMPUR:A Brief Look through

Likes

Hostels,Mess, Faculty and Lab(which are highly productive)
Teachers always welcome you to ask doubts and clear them

Dislikes

Campus is under construction but it will be finished by 2024
It is in a remote area,so you have to use the institute bus for 40 mins to reach Berhampur city

Placement Experience:

After 10th Semester, Students become available for Placements.Companies like Wipro,Google and Apple visit our institute.Average package is 50LPA.Almost 95% of the students get placements and rest get PHD in good institutes.I want to do PHD in Cambridge

Courses and instructors are good, but don't expect a rocking campus life here.

Likes

Hostel rooms, guest house, most instructors, core courses, the two beaches near the campus, one of which is the "IISER Beach".

Dislikes

Mess food, frequent wifi problems, important sites blocked on the wifi. No permission for fests, Increasing restrictions trying to control especially girls, Wrong people in the authority.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this college without planning as I couldn't get a desired seat in IIT. But I think it was for good. The course is a wonderful primer on the path of becoming a scientist. Compared to other colleges, IISER Berhampur has a quite good faculty: student ratio. But most of them are pretty good as people and as teachers. We manage to conduct all classes without fail. But I'd like to see an increase in the number so that the research area can be broadened. The faculty here have all completed their Ph.D. and postdoc and all have some good prior experience in research and teaching. I like most of the instructors that have taught me except for a few one or two. The exam schedule is given right with the calendar release of each semester before the semester starts. Sometimes there might be changes in the schedule but we are informed around 2-3 weeks earlier in that case. Exams are not hard to pass if you attend classes and study sincerely. Questions are not asked beyond the concepts being taught.

Course Curriculum Overview:

IISER Bpr offers cutting-edge scientific research facilities. If you want to succeed in science, IISERs are the place to be, since they provide research training with cutting-edge technology and instruments from a young age. The professors at any IISER are highly qualified and prominent scientists from institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Tier, IISc, and many others around the world. Due to a large number of pupils, the faculty: student ratio stands out as a deficit. Semesters are typically four months long, with assessments based on projects, quizzes, assignments, lab work, mid-sem, and end-sem. The questions in the exam are quite challenging and require deep understanding, one needs to analyze the course with great understanding to excel in the exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I did opt for this course because I was very eager about research studies. IISER is a college that allows vast opportunities for research in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, earth, and environmental sciences, engineering physics, engineering biology, and engineering chemistry. So, if anyone wishes to be absorbed in the research field, IISER is the best college for him/her. Faculty: student ratio is almost 1:70 which is perfect for an ideal education system. All the faculties are highly educated and have done Ph.D. and Post Doc. from distinguished institutions. The teaching method is mainly through slides. The teacher explains the concepts on the blackboard and also provides ready-made slides describing everything that has been taught in the class that day. There is a total of 2 semesters in one year. Each semester has 2 exams- mid-semester and end semester. So, in total there are 4 exams in a year. It is not at all difficult to pass but one has to study sincerely.

Life at IISER Berhampur

Course Curriculum Overview:

If you only think about your placement then don't go for it but if you want to be a researcher/scientist then IISER is the best option for you. There are lots of highly educated faculty in our institute. Their teaching method is really awesome. You ask them any doubt at any time. Yeah, exams are a little bit difficult. After choosing a major in your 3rd year you'll find the difficulties.
