Remarks

Admission to any of the 7 IISER colleges can be obtained through 3 processes or 3 channels:- JEE advanced channel, KVPY channel, and SCB channel. If any student has obtained a rank under 15,000 in JEE Advanced, he/she can apply for admission to IISERs. In the case of the KVPY channel, if anyone has qualified KVPY in class 11 or 12, he/she can apply for admission in IISERs. In the case of the SCB channel, a student has to sit in an entrance exam named IAT or IISER Admission Test. Then, depending on his/her rank in the IAT exam, he/she gets admission to IISER colleges. A student is eligible for admission in iiser only 2 times i.e. the year in which he/she has passed his/her 12 th board exams and the year following that. The application form is available on the IISER home page. Application fees and dates are available on the website and they change from year to year. OBC/SC/ST/PWD/EWS candidates need to produce their updated caste or supporting certificates to get the additional facilities.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I did opt for this course because I was very eager about research studies. IISER is a college that allows vast opportunities for research in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, earth, and environmental sciences, engineering physics, engineering biology, and engineering chemistry. So, if anyone wishes to be absorbed in the research field, IISER is the best college for him/her. Faculty: student ratio is almost 1:70 which is perfect for an ideal education system. All the faculties are highly educated and have done Ph.D. and Post Doc. from distinguished institutions. The teaching method is mainly through slides. The teacher explains the concepts on the blackboard and also provides ready-made slides describing everything that has been taught in the class that day. There is a total of 2 semesters in one year. Each semester has 2 exams- mid-semester and end semester. So, in total there are 4 exams in a year. It is not at all difficult to pass but one has to study sincerely.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Since our college provides opportunities for research activities to the students, one cannot expect to get jobs in any company based on studies done in his/ her graduation course. However, one can easily do internships during the summer and winter breaks. The internships may be either paid or unpaid. For getting internships, one can directly mail the professors of other colleges or institutions. Another process is that one can register for summer internships in the official portals of the respective colleges. One can gain a vast amount of knowledge and practical experience based on the knowledge that one gains while doing any offline or online internships.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is quite minimal in our college. IISER Berhampur charges a total of 54,200 rupees per semester which includes hostel fees, tuition fees, etc. The mess fees have to be separately paid which accounts for Rs. 3600 for a 30-day month and Rs. 3720 for a 31-day month. The semester fees keep increasing per year by approximately Rs. 5000. So, a student has to spend approximately 1.5 lakh rupees per year which include both semester fees and the mess fees. Our college provides scope for Inspire scholarship. Under this scholarship, a student gets Rs. 5000 per month and an additional Rs. 20,000 if the student performs any offline internships in the academic year. There are 2 conditions for getting this scholarship. Firstly, one shall be a fresher when he/she takes admitted to IISER college, and secondly, he/she shall be among the top 1% in 12th board result in his/her respective state board or central board. Our campus does not provide scope for any direct jobs after BS-MS.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is good, if not great. The name of our annual fest is "KYRAT". It is conducted either in late march or in early April month. There is a library on our permanent campus where all kinds of educational as well as fictional and story books are stacked. Many prominent journals are also available in the library. One gets access to daily newspapers in the English language as well as other regional languages. Classrooms are well designed with some digital projectors and stand televisions so that even the student sitting on the last bench can also easily notice what sir is teaching. Our campus provides facilities for all kinds of sports including cricket, badminton, table tennis, football, kho-kho, kabaddi, etc. There are sufficient arrangements on our campus for dance and musical activities. There are many science and eco clubs on our campus, e.g. La Vida (Bio club), 137 inverse (Physics club), Chemshala (Chemistry club), Astronomy club, Music club, Film club, Dance and drama club.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel Facility is really excellent in our college. Our hostel is a gigantic building which gives accomodation to almost 800 students. There are separate hostels for boys, girls and faculties. Every student gets a single room with a fan, tube light, a bed, chair and a table.Every floor of hostel is also provided with one washing machine. Meal quality is quite good. The menu in lunch and dinner includes salad, rice, roti, dal, vegetables, papad and pickle. Chicken is served in friday dinner. Sunday has a special dish called biriyani. Breakfast is quite good with bread and butter, poha, tea and milk. For hostel availability, one has to fill up a form, once at the time of registration and document verification when a student takes admission in the college. The hostel fees is very affordable. Since our permanent campus is at an isolated location, one does not chance to rent any room or PG. To solve this problem, our college provides guest rooms to all parents and relatives of students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculums are research based, i.e., they prepare one well for a career in academia. Primarily, the depth of the fields in particular influenced me to take up courses, where they offer quite a bit more than typical application based engineering courses. The labs are excellent, and a pretty good introduction to someone who would like to conduct reserach in laboratories. A lot of people go for PHDs after this course, which is a natural continuation of the rigor inculcated. I pretty much have no complaints about the teaching methods, except they could start offering some more subjects, which is understandable since the college is pretty young. The exams are of normal difficulty I'd say, not too hard that you get completely stumped on receiving the question papers, and not too easy either where you can just breeze through without studying a line. The exam frequency is reasonable too, that being two exams per semester (with optional mid-sem omission for low-credit courses), though the exam schedule itself can be pretty stressful.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am still in undergraduate course. and I prefer to take Earth and Environmental Science because it is related to our mother Earth and the ecosystem which we are also a part of. It is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary course which includes fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. It also conducts grest field study which all the other sciences lack. I like to explore new things out in the real life and this field will eventually grant me that. For now, the curriculum is more focused on Earth Science. But it would have been better if the balance would have been maintained with Environmental Science as well. The frequency and timing of the exams are the same as the others, two exams per semester with similar levels of difficulty.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I took this course doe to my interest in research. As of now I am not learing anything about how to do research, even tho i am in my 3rd semester, i feel like there is a need for things like critical thinking and record tracking are needed. Some key improvement would be better note sharing from professor side, more practice paper for preparing for exam. Exams are difficult, gets difficult progressively, frequency is moderate

In this course students have to learn all the subjects for first two years. Hence they are open to all type of opportunities in future. Apart from pure sciences there are courses like computer data science and earth sciences. However the course is not industry oriented rather it is more research oriented.

Placements are offered but majority of students opt for higher studies hence not much is focused on campus placements. Personally my plan is to go for a PhD abroad after completing the degree and most students here come with the mindset to pursue research.

Course Curriculum Overview:

According to me, this is a very helpful course if you want to go into research fields. The students who love to explore the subjects and like to study basic science will definitely get the importance of this course. In my college, the faculties are very helpful and generous. They always try to show you different paths of exploring the subjects and the philosophy behind them. This helps students a lot to think differently.

At 4th year students are eligible for placements. Before that, you can also work in your own company from your invention. Generally, students do not choose placements here. They like to run their own company with their own inventions. You will get millions and millions of money by using the knowledge gained here in this college.I would like to make my own inventions and help it for the public.
